The miss could happen to anyone.

This.

I'll not judge anyone on missing a single effort, I'm sure we could find Shearer missing some easy efforts if we looked back hard enough. It's about patterns, about how a player plays overall. Miss those every week and there's an issue, miss one? Meh. Especially as it had zero effect on the game.

He's improving.

Think it's worth giving him the benefit of the doubt in his first season here.

The signings in the first year of PIF ownership hit the ground running, but they were replacing players like Darlow, Clark, Ritchie & Shelvey.

I'm struggling to think of many players who didn't require a settling in period after that.  Off the top of my head Tino & Thiaw are the only players who really made an immediate impact.

I think it's probably the right call tbh. Just keep easing him in and let him slowly build up confidence and comfort.

Goal the other night was great but his general play was still a bit iffy and isn't there yet.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with the Murphy call and if Elanga is introduced with the game in the balance and he makes a positive difference, his mental health will probably be intact.

Elanga created chances scored a cracker and works hard so deserves a start. Murphy doesn't deserve a start.

We all know if he started and misplaced three passes it would be "ah there we go he's reverted back to his usual, absolute shite" from 95% of the people who are saying he should've started.

Not sure how dropping him after Wednesday night builds up his confidence like. Best way to buold confidence is to play surely.

He hasn't been dropped, he didn't start on Wednesday.

He came on, did well and scored. Another winger has now been injured, and he's still not starting. Murphy chosen ahead of him.

That is not going to build the lads confidence. It's more likely to have the opposite effect.

Anyone watching on Peacock? Still showing coverage starts shortly.

Looked frozen tbh. Peakcock likely has Drury so not going back to check.

Hit form feels like a stretch I think. I'd say it looks more like potentially the green shoots of something. Don't mind him being tasked with making an impact until he can be relied upon.

I'd tend to agree if either Gordon or Murphy could be relied upon.

You know things are going better when we're disappointed he's not starting over Murphy mind.

Murphy was atrocious. He should have been in the ref's face furious about the penalty decision, but instead he made VAR's mind up for them by looking like he agreed with it.

On the ball he was even worse. Elanga looked far better when he came on.
