Said similar in another thread about players not taking responsibility or acting as coaches on the pitch and adapting.  It's like any autonomy and individuality has been coached out of them.

We were talking about it in the pub yesterday.  Modern players are like robots.  Probably one of the reasons why modern football is becoming very boring to watch.

Aye, I mentioned it in the aftermath of Wednesday - might have even been you I said it to - on the "coaches on the pitch" stuff, like at 4-2 why isn't anyone saying "sit tight for now, no more goals".

Off topic but along similar lines, there was an interesting analysis done I think during the 2022 World Cup that drew a correlation between the national teams that were doing well versus those that weren't basically along the lines of the countries that had mainly players from clubs with pragmatic coaches were doing better (it may have even been Ancelotti vs Pep coached/influenced players or something like that) because they were more used to adapting and having to sort things out on the pitch, whereas Spain was the example of what happens when you're over-coached/wedded to a system. Albeit we learned the hard way that they fixed that!

That’s defiantly what I’ve seen when watching live, almost as if Trippier looks down line & thinks ah fuck, turns inside & passes responsibility to someone else as knows Elanga is a waste of time

Elanga is as bad as a footballer as I’ve seen “play” for us in the past 5 years, some achievement

There was a moment yesterday when Trippier actually tried to play it to Elanga but for the first time in his entire Newcastle career, Elanga had set off rather than come short, Trippier played it short and the defender took it

The frustration from Trippier was there for all to see.

No idea if Elanga is just really thick or just struggling to understand his role in the team.

He’s like when you go to throw a tennis ball for your dog to chase and pump fake it; 30m away before he realises there is no ball.

Yes I clocked that too

Must be infuriating for rest of players, I'm old & ugly enough to know when someone can play football or not & this lad is never going to make it here as long as I've got a hole in my arse

Dunno how he did so badly in a 3-1 win  basically did nothing. 1 touch in the box, no successful dribbles or crosses.

He's got Graham Potter coaching him so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt
