The thesis case paying the premium was no doubt that his PL experience required less adaptation and that he therefore carried less risk. Amusing to never play him anyway, and when we have his performances have been so bad you'd be disappointed if he cost 15m from Scotland. The obvious predictably of this being a miss is depressing.

Hoping he's just having that half season settling in period that Gordon had when he first joined. Frustrating thing for me with him, he has the pace and sometimes tears off down the wing, but instead of keep going and cutting into the box, or trying to take a man on, he stops and cuts back.

Not sure what his finishing is like, but earlier in the season I did wonder if he'd be an option through the middle with his pace, could potentially give the defender half a yard and still beat him for speed, but then can he finish?

That’s what I suspect for long. It looks like he has some personal problems and thus unable to fully concentrate on the pitch

Yea, could be. That and his arsehole countryman pulled a fuckhead move just as he joined.

Forest have fleeced us like

£90m for him and Vlach in the last few years, and they got Anderson off us for £15m

Must be rubbing their hands every time we want to do business with them.

They did give us £30m for Shelvey mind.

Wise man, fuck off the pointless last game, get back to Newcastle and training ahead of Man City game.

Yeah he'll need to be fully prepped and tuned in for his fifth sub, 10 minute cameo appearance when we're 0-2 down.

hoped he is serious upgrade on Barnes and Murphy. What we really miss is Murphys G+A from last season. nobody replacing that and its getting very visible.

I fully believe in time he'll get close or get more G/A than Murphy if Howe persists with him and everyone knuckles down. I think he can do it.

It's just that Murphy is still a limited player overall. And Elanga has many of the same fundamental limitations that limit our ceiling as a team. Elanga's fundamentals are Murphy level.

€6.5m.

However "The transfer fee for changing from Newcastle United to Nottingham Forest can increase from €6.500.000 up to €10.000.000 if obligations are met."

Who knows whether they were met or not.

He barely played so doubt it.

Forest have got tremendous value from business with us. The Wood money was worth every penny. They'll double the Anderson money with ease maybe even 3x. Fleeced us for Vloch

Blind optimism.  But I reckon he's coming back as he's starting on Saturday and he wants to work hard to try and find some form and be part of the gameplan.

Not saying his performances have warranted a start or a prolonged run in the team.  None of the wide men really have done anywhere near enough this season.  But coming into a new team which currently has a bit of an identity crisis and then being in and out the side so much.  With mainly a few cameos here and there of late and in games that wouldn't have suited.  Can't be easy for him.  That's not to make excuses for him, as he has been miles below what most have expected.  I'm just trying to look for some reasons behind it.

It's a fairly damming comparison.  But he reminds me of Obertan at the minute.  All the pace and trickery to actually beat players.  But seems to be playing scared all the while, his touch is off, regularly has a man beat and wants to stop and then pass it backwards/to the opposition.  It's like he's in his own head and he isn't playing with any fluidity, confidence or instinct.  Unlike Obertan, he has actually put up numbers and shown in this league that he is a massive threat in the right system.  So there is still hope there.

I can't say I've watched him enough to know if his basic skillset is usually this poor or not.  But I don't remember seeing him at Forest and thinking his passing and first touch was terrible.  Still hoping it is as much of a mental block as his fundamentals being crap at best.

I hope not, it cost us a fortune in exorcism fees to get the spirit of Obertan out of Murphy. Have these malignant spirits no respect for our delicate PSR position?

Eddie Howe has offered a strong defense of Anthony Elanga amidst his slow start at St James' Park! Despite the winger failing to register a goal or assist since his move from Nottingham Forest and recently losing his spot to Jacob Murphy, Howe isn't worried: "Anthony is going to be a great player for this football club, I've got no doubt about that." He stressed that some players "need a little bit extra time and more support" for that positive moment to "suddenly kick off." Howe concluded he has "no issues or worries with him," confirming Elanga has all the necessary attributes for success here.

Absolutely desperate on that one occasion where he needed to hold it up. But I wish Willock had put a bit more on the pass right at the death; he'd have been through on goal and could've been a big moment for him.
