Clearly signed based on his raw data attributes in the hope we could shape him into the footballer we wanted. However Isak moved the goalposts and changed the footballer we need and not sure Elanga fits the profile. His/our biggest hope is that Wissa returning gives our play a different dimension and a place for him in the team

Surely not, he's a PL player and we would have watched literally every minute he played for the last 2 years

I am going to give him at least half a season before I even contemplate that he is a duff signing. I think when our full backs come back plus Wissa, that will give him and the midfield more space to exploit.

How long ha he been here. 2 weeks, 2 months?  A lot longer. How long do we wait? I personally feel that his heart is not here anymore. Couldn't give two shits if he left the club tomorrow.

You are refering to Elanga here?

Didn’t do much when he came on but it was a bit unfair to move him into the middle where he would not obviously never get the ball.

Tbf, the further from the ball he got, the better he looked..

Lad needs support and a bit of patience. The player I saw capable of shooting and crossing off either foot just hasn't shown up yet and it's frustrating to watch but I think he'll come good if given enough time.

Yeah - have to back him and he will come good.

No doubt his performance is disappointing so far, but I feel like he receives extra hatred because a lot of us have the illusion that we paid some sort of astronomical transfer fee on him.

The fact is, without extraordinary luck or vision, or both, £52+3m won't buy you the brightest players nowadays.

We're also probably willing to pay a bit more on transfer fee because he doesn't ask for a huge salary (reported salary is £80k pw). I feel sorry for him for getting extra hatred because he wasn't greedy.

It may not even be easy to name 3 RWs that we would truly love to add to our squad while being cheaper than Elanga.

Look at the other teams' transfers on wingers/AMs. Better players like Mbeumo and Kudus are considerably more expensive. Xavi Simons has both higher price tag and salary than Elanga and he is heavily criticized by Tottenham fans. Arsenal bought Madueke at similar transfer fee, on reported £150k pw. Garnacho is unwanted at Man Utd, yet Chelsea still have to pay £40m with 10% sell-on clause and reported £110k pw. Brentford bought Ouattara for £42.5m (he's doing alright there, but he relies a lot on speed like Elanga). Forest bought a guy called Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich for £37.5m who is apparently warming their bench.

If you look at those transfers, you got a feeling that even if Elanga turns out to be a flop, selling him at £40-45m is entirely possible.

So we might have paid £10-15m more than what he's worth, but it's nowhere near a catastrophic error.

We're always banging on about not being able to make mistakes in the market, yet we chased this guy for multiple seasons and ended up spending big for him.

He's surely gonna come good given all that scouting, otherwise it might be our first big whiff.

Even if he comes good next season, it’s still a stinky signing for what’s offered this season that potentially holds us back.

For £55m, you need output straight away.

I think we should have had a lot of experience that new acquisitions always need at least a few months or even a year to start performing. Yea those are mainly pre-takeover but back at that time people here tends to have more patience.

Give him time.

I agree with this but i'm suprised that Eddie threw him right in, and in doing so taking off one of our more productive players in Murphy. I really think that decision cost us a few points and a slow start to the season.

It looks like a we’ve promoted one of the kids from the under 12’s.

He looked good v Barca but other times he’s looked like Trevan Sanusi against Bromley. Saying that, so did Gordon last night…

I know I am the minority here but I fully support Eddie for rotating the squad even if it means we would drop a few points. I don’t want another injury-ridden season. I genuinely think Eddie has learnt a lesson here - he even willing to sub BG off now. Eddie deserves some praise here.

I agree Murphy is our most reliable winger at this moment and I understand how weird it feels to see him being taken off for Elanga. However, I don’t want Murphy to take extra workload and risk injuries - it should be Gordon and Barnes who have to step up now and prove their value. Both have been very disappointing tbh.

Nothing to do with the transfer fee for me, my problem is that he doesn't seem to fit the profile that we needed at all. We really didn't need another pace merchant on the wing, we needed someone with a bit guile.

The fact that he isn't even using his pace effectively so far is making the signing look worse.

He's in the top 75 most expensive premier league signings of all time. I reckon we're allowed to expect a bit more. I really just don't think he's suited to us at all. Perhaps Howe will find a way to change his game (like teaching him how to trap a ball and pass to a teammate to start) but £55m is nuts for a player you then have to redevelop.

He’s been fucking bobbins, genuinely struggling to recall a poorer start from a new signing, let alone one of that sort of level price-wise. Technically woeful, doesn’t makes the right runs, pulls out of 50/50s, doesn’t press well, next to no goal threat, can’t beat a man, takes too many touches, plays head-down, and I could go on.

He’s here now, though, and he can only get better. We have to back him, because he seems a great lad, and back Howe to help him do a Miggy and become a key part of our style/new style. As a combination I’d be surprised if they can’t make it work between them, though there is a mountain to climb.
