Needs to learn to do the Gordon/Barnes back post run. Otherwise known as the Sterling. 
 

Just noticed on the highlights he seemed to slow down for a split second off the Gordon cross. Which meant he couldn’t quite get to the ball.
 

Probably wasn’t expecting the early cross. But we have done that a lot under Howe. So he needs to be busting a gut to get into the box.

For all the criticism, he is causing problems for defenders in his last few games. Won a penalty, got a defender sent off, and teed up a goal.

Isn't that the second time Gordon has cut in and played him in behind? Was the same at Villa, and both times it's resulted in a red card for the opposition!

This is what average players do. Sometimes bad, sometimes do good stuff.

Villa was Elanga playing it through to Gordon, no?

It can’t help that every time he gets the ball. The whole crowd seem to moan and groan and are just waiting for a perceived mistake so they can kick off. 
 

The bloke behind me in the Leazes was a special case. Everything he did was wrong. 
 

“Where’s he going. He’s going too wide?!”

”Why is he coming inside?!”

“Why is he not running in behind?!”

”What’s he doing coming short?!”

”Why isn’t he taking him on?!”

”What’s he doing taking him on?!”

”Why’s he not 9 foot tall so he could have got on the end of it.” 
 

Then just generally abusing him at every opportunity. Saying how crap he is, the club is too big for him etc. 

 

 

This is the reason for my pos lt and I’m also to blame. Not at the stadium but I’m sure he hears what people say about him online.  
 

I’m going to try and chill on the criticism of the player.

I'm not convinced either, but you aren't going to get Murphy winning those penalties or getting players sent off by showing defenders a clean pair of heels. His pace hurts teams. Granted Murphy has better deliveries, I'm just saying Elanga does bring different qualities to the game.

but Gordon did play Elanga in for that chance early in the game

I agree, but we paid far too much and it was an obvious miss. Not much to be done now and I hope recruitment improves moving forward.

I agree but Think most ppl have accepted this. Now he has to maximise what he can do. We know his limitations

Warm up stretches down the touch line were good. Fantastic turn of speed to join in the 2-1 celebrations. Something to work with IMO.

I think he should've started yesterday he needs a run of games none of this start every few games lingo. He needs consistency and he will only get that through playing week in week out.

2nd touch of the match went for a throw in, then tried to take his man on and it went straight for a goal kick. To make matters worse Gordon did the same thing too.

Not even utilising his pace to stretch the opposition. I don’t get what he brings at all tbh.

He has absolutely no chemistry with Tino on that flank, the amount of times they've gifted the mackems possession is criminal. 

 

His only supposed quality is his pace, which he needs space to utilise, he was never getting that against this mob today. We seldom get acres of space against any opposition which begs the question why we even bothered with him in the first place.

Eddie will continue giving him chances because he chased him for a year and spent £55m on him. He’s a clear sell for me though.
