Barnes would be straight on direct in front of the keeper with only the keeper to beat if he'd got that pass.  Nobody is blaming Elanga there if Barnes missed that.

Barnes was slid in with a perfectly weighted ball from Wissa and just had to slot home first time, and started trying to take extra touches in the box, and got the ball taken off him.

Elanga has players to shoot through/around to even get to the keeper.  Barnes only had the keeper to beat if he gets that pass.  I'm sure Elanga wanted the goal for himself after running all that way with the ball.  But the best option for the team is the pass and he's cost the team by not making it.

So?  Are you suggesting players should stop making the right decisions in case a player misses a chance?  Barnes has scored plenty of goals in that position.  Obviously you should pass if a player is in a much better position to score than you are.  If they miss it's on them.  If you never make that pass and don't score yourself it's on you.  It's on Elanga..

Barnes had two far more glaring goal scoring chances that he made a mess of that should have won us this game.

Elanga had just been groaned at for trying to find a pass and having the ball taken off him. He was well within his rights to take that chance on and shoot after that run.

We've spent the entire week saying he's not being positive enough with the ball, taking on his man, having a go. That run and shot was the only thing I've seen him do with intent since the Barca game.

It's a low bar, but I'd rather see him do that than what he has been doing, I also suspect he would've completely fluffed the pass anyway.

If he had passed it and nothing came of the chance you'd be moaning that he should have shot. You lot are just relentless man.

Honestly, it's just fucking ridiculous.

To be honest, it's one of those where if he passes and we don't score (which wasn't exactly a dead cert in that position), he would've been slated for not having a go himself.

I've been hyper critical of him on here but I'm not going to slate a player for trying to score after running the length of the pitch.

Nah he wouldn’t.

The pass was the correct thing to do.  It’s an easier thing to complete than the finish and Barnes finish should be easier too. You shoot in that position you have to score and he wasn’t even particularly close. It does show the lack of quality an decision making many have been saying unfortunately.

But that was a positive moment for him. So I’ll take it.

Was Wissa having a go at him while Wissa was getting carded?

I'm just confused at how slow he looks. Whenever he gets the ball I'm expecting him to knock it past the fullback and chase but he just... Doesn't? Even when he's running he never seems to get clear of anyone. So weird.

He looks like he the fast kid in PE who didn't like football so was rapid but couldn't control the ball while running with it.

I still don't understand whatever that point is. He absolutely was proven Prem quality.

3rd in assists last year, wasn’t he? I really hope he comes good second half of the season. A goal would do him wonders.

A couple of times I wondered how he didnt outsprint Cucurella.

Thats like Chelsea signing Murphy because he’s proven prem quality.

Yeh Elanga got a bag of assists.  But did we watch him play and judge his first touch, his non ability to beat a man, his decision making etc. I rarely read Froggy’s posts but he was right about Elanga.

Barnes missing those chances is the exception rather than the rule, he's usually clinical and scores at a good rate.

Elanga has contributed absolutely fucking nothing this season and is shit every time he takes to the field.

Nah, not on at all. Judge them all by the same measure.

I could also argue Elanga hasn't found his feet and Barnes is an established player in the squad.

Barnes should be putting the game to bed today, as he had the far better chances to do so in that second half.

Crying about Elanga afterwards is truly pitiful.

You have an even smaller brain than Elanga does which is some doing.

Nope. I'm out.

Aye, he's fast but so was Obertan, get him to fuck.

He's miles better than Obertan. Even without any confidence, he played some nice one twos in tight areas today. That's not to say he's the right fit for us, I don't think he is. You can't be scared of the crowd if you are playing for Newcastle.
