He was also absolutely terrible. Even in today's game Elanga has a shot just outside of the post and plays a ball in at the end that could have led to something. That would be one of Obertan's better performances.

Elanga has been poor, very poor in fact, but he's clearly a better footballer than Gabriel Obertan.

The bigger issue for me re that late chance (though not squaring it is poor play) is the fact that he’s a fresh sub vs a not so fresh Cucarella and he isn’t capable of knocking the ball ten yards ahead and skinning him for pace

I don’t remember Barnes being this poor after signing from Leicester.  So it we’re judging them by the same measure, Elanga has been shit.

Obertan had a better first touch for sure.  
 

Obertan didn’t have the mentality or heart for prrofessional football. But he was technically sound.  
 

Obertan is 1/10 mentality wise and Elanga will have a a far better career.

That last sentence is just bollocks. He has two options inside - Wissa and Barnes. At the crucial moment, Wissa is yet to reach the D of the penalty box and has a Chelsea defender dead ahead of him. Barnes is the better ball but he’d need to play it right across the face of the Chelsea defender at a point where you can clearly see the Chelsea defender moving his body to try and block that ball. I think he has every right to take the shot on and it’s not a bad effort by any means. If Barnes or Gordon do that, I don’t think anyone says anything.

Sorry, my comparison to Obertan was just me being facetious about how a fast player doesn't necessarily a good player if they're severely lacking in other areas, I wasn't expecting it to be taken literally 

For the record, Elanga is demonstrably a better player than Obertan

You guys can twist this every which way you want.

 

All I know is that today was on Barnes. That chance Wissa slides him in with a perfect pass placed on his stronger right foot to slot away in the box, and he tries to take an extra touch, is unacceptable. Not to mention the other chance he had from Bruno's cross or the stupid dive when he was in a great position. Not good enough, especially as he's so much better than Gordon and Elanga right?

 

If that was Gordon or Elanga the forum would have crashed over the collective circle jerk in their threads.
