I’m not even sure what the point of you arguing over £5k pw even was, nor what point you thought it proves.  £195k pw would make him comfortably our highest earner, yet thanks to PSR Man Utd can offer overinflated wages to mediocre players like him and still go out and buy more.

In this thread earlier this week I was saying how I'd love a threeway with Michelle Collins and Colleen Rooney.

 

Someone replied that I fancied women who looked like dinner ladies.

 

I said which school did they go to where the dinner ladies were as smoking hot as Michelle and Colleen.

 

Then @Pablo123 said that he had dinner ladies who looked like Mama Fratelli, but he still poked them at the end of lunch break.

 

So yes, someone on here does know canteen ladies and care about kitchen staff.

Yeah it’s not great he needed to say this. The lad’s confidence is on the floor now. He’ll never be a world beater but he needs a bit of encouragement. It would be great if the fans could hold their moans and groans till after the game.

Elanga's confidence is shot, and it's why I don't much buy the argument that's it OK to moan hyperbolically online but not in the stands, because it doesn't work that way.

 

I think that negativity seeps through to match going fans since almost everyone is online now.

At the extreme end of your example; people are racist online or amongst their associates, but they're not able to be vocally racist from the stands because they'll get arrested and banned. 

 

It is possible to hold one's tongue and not be a cunt towards our own team for the 90 mins plus injury time that the players are on the pitch. Regardless of what one thinks about our own team, either online or away from the ground.

 

If you're turning up to be negative and abusive towards our own players, then just fuck off and find summat else to do with your time because you're not wanted at SJP. Would be what I would say if I was Eddie Howe.

We're not actually disagreeing that much, except insofar as I think a constant stream of negativity online seeps into the fan base and reinforces those opinions, and enables them to vocalise it. Not least because many of the most passionate supporters will also be online hoovering up whatever content they can.

 

That trend has polarised opinions and isn't unique to football, because some people increasingly can't see the line that you can and can't cross.

 

At the end of the day, Geoff, it's not like there's no effort or a bad attitude from him, things just aren't working out for him yet. Maybe he'll make it, maybe he won't and I don't have you down as one of the constant moaners.

 

Not saying you can't criticise a bad performance on here or elsewhere, just saying he has become a lightning rod for OTT reactions, that's amplified online and then spills into real life.

Yeah, I think we're agreeing in some ways. My personal take on it is:

 

Has he been playing well - Definitely no

Can he play better than he has been - Definitely yes

Is he trying hard - Yes

Is he low on confidence - Definitely yes

Will getting on his back at every opportunity in the ground help him play well and improve his confidence - Definitely not

 

When I'm in the ground the players will always get my positive support, unless they're visibly taking the piss by not trying, then I'd reconsider my mindset towards them

Howe says fans need to help and support him - that ship has sailed. Stadium groaning at Elanga when he gives the ball to opposition inside his half - that's fair. 

 

Lad can't pass to his teammate, let alone attack and run a full back or god-forbid assist and score. 

 

Elanga would be first to sit there on Sky on those daft interviews, and say how great St James Park is to play in, and how great fans are. We'd certainly be lifting off our seats and roaring him on to attack if he was playing well.

 

Sadly it's just 40-45k groaning and aghhh'ing 1 in 3 times lad gets the ball. I think that's fair - wouldn't be any easier if he wen't and played in Italy/Turkey
