They also lost to Monaco and Brugge.

The new format gives you more space to breathe if you’re a lower ranked team (like us and Villa). It’s no surprise Celtic made the knockout round for the first time in a billion years.

Celtic go to the play offs. Villa didn’t even play the playoffs because they did so well.  And got a better draw as a result.  They also did much better in the league.

It’s pretty simple. They did better than us in their CL season because they had a better squad.

If given a squad equipped for the extra games. I’m confident Howe would do even better.

Literally just had a daily standup meeting, talking to one of my Forrest fans colleagues and he says they do need to sell but MGW has only two years left and is refusing to sign new contract with City sniffing apparently so he expects him to go and Elanga to stay.

Seems he’s wrong though? City have moved on. City aren’t Real, waiting for their man to run down contracts.  They just move on.

Real’s approach is funny when you think about it.  They will leave their squad short so the position is open for someone to join for free 2 years later. ‘Endrick and Mbappe are coming next season so here’s a 10/B2B midfielder and Joselu…….You better win it all.’

I think his expectations are about to be confounded…

We were a group where two of the teams went on to make the semi finals that season.

It’s mental to assume with certainty Villa would have progressed any further than we did if placed in the same format/group.

Did a bit of YouTube scouting yesterday, he's definitely an interesting one. I can see why some people would say he's not great on the ball due to his running style and way of controlling the ball as he moves. It's a bit weird sometimes. But - he does make excellent decisions and doesn't seem to just run for the sake of it. He actually delivers early and decisive passes very, very well. Not sure I'd describe him as completely two footed but he is happy to have a go with his left.

His shooting doesn't come across as overly brilliant but he does squeeze the ball past the keeper somehow in a lot of different situations. Crosses and corners are very good. You can tell he comes from that new school of players where the cutback or cross to an unexpected place are always an option.

I can't see him making the brain-fart errors that Murphy does, but he also will be purely an attacker and maybe not work up and down the flank as much as Murphy does. Depending on how much Howe can brainwash him I guess, or depending on instructions to other players like Tino and the CMs.

I liked Franz Carr. Didn’t understand why we signed Rob Lee at the time. May have got that one wrong…

I think I'll go on record here saying he's perfect for what we already do well, so there's no reason why he won't be a massive success.

I know people (including me) want to be able to be able to mix the game up with a No. 10, dominate teams and up our ball retention, but honestly I love the way we play and he's going to be great for that so I think he'll be a great buy.

Good age, good stats, good pedigree, good fitness and physical attributes.

We can still get a forward thinking CM who'd mix it up with big Joe. This doesn't stop us buying one of those.

I still think we might buy a no 10 type if there's one available of a decent quality.

Luckily we've got 2 of the best defending right backs in the league to put behind him

Mate - I know we support Newcastle United but the facts are the facts. I’m not suggesting anything - I’m stating some simple facts.
