I'll believe any of this shit when I see him and Osula hit the griddy (or whatever the kids are doing in the year of our lord 2025) at his presentation on the pitch at SJP.

While it's tempting to talk about him like he's already ours... don't do it to yourselves, lads

I think you'll find the vernacular is, "this cunt signed yet?", Paulo.

Of course it is. Got distracted with the Big club/ Not Big club chat above [emoji38]

At the point now where you literally can't doubt any player that Eddie signs for us , we will obviously sign a big money dud eventually but he is clearly desperate for Elanga so you have to trust that .

Not overly excited by this one, but I really hope he proves me wrong when he is wearing the black & white next season.

That help?

I was not either.  When you look at his stats in the Premier League, he is right up there.  He is two-footed, great in the press and rapid on the break. All attributes that work in a Howe side.

Could we be getting a player in from Europe for half the price?  Probably - but with higher risks.

He will settle in very quickly (Isak and Osula for starters), and as much as Murphy had a brilliant season, he is certainly an upgrade and will hopefully push Murphy further, too - competition on the right has been totally lacking.

£55/60M is a lot, but Gordon was £40M and unproven - the additional £15M is hardly a lot for what you are getting, relatively speaking.  If Elanga smashes it this season, suddenly he is in that £70M+with a year in the CL under his belt.

Also a non-gambling ban or a freak shoulder dislocation away from running them close the season we ended 7th, too.

Keep seeing you say that but take McGinn out of their team for 7 months for things outside your control and Martinez out for half a season, do Villa "manage" the season any better?

Kamara and Mings missed most of the season with ACL injuries - but they were replaced.  Their PSR transfer w/Chelsea actually managed to contribute.

I think Eddie did the best that could’ve given the circumstances. No real issues with him. I think Villa would be a little disappointed. Apart from having that squad in Aug rather than Feb - the owners/management gave Emery everything he needed to succeed in the season. That is the reason they did better than us, they gave Emery a better squad.

Would they have reached the QF’s if they were in a group with PSG, Dortmund and Milan?

Villa beat PSG, Bayern, Leipzeig and Bologna. Drew with Juve.

I think I'll go on record here saying he's perfect for what we already do well, so there's no reason why he won't be a massive success.

I know people (including me) want to be able to be able to mix the game up with a No. 10, dominate teams and up our ball retention, but honestly I love the way we play and he's going to be great for that so I think he'll be a great buy.

Good age, good stats, good pedigree, good fitness and physical attributes.

We can still get a forward thinking CM who'd mix it up with big Joe. This doesn't stop us buying one of those.

Think that’s the most likely change in midfield. Only thing that confuses me is wanting Joao Pedro… guess we wanted the option to change formation at times and were planning to buy Pedro and Elanga.

Bloom’s spreadsheet nonces and Foley’s equivalent at Bournemouth will never be big clubs. Their fans have the passion levels of a building society AGM.

That’s mostly down to budget (and ambition).

strategically thinking - their approach on a bigger budget is the optimal way to close the gap to the big 6 PSR wise.

The path we are taking requires immediate success.  We’re signing Elanga because we think he comes in and hits the ground running.

I don’t expect us to invest heavily in players 21 or younger like we did with Hall and Tino.  Hall in particular was always going to need at least a season to become the definitive #1 choice - he was 19.

I think a 10 also helps Isak to run a little less too.  Out of possession with 2 up top is easier on the striker.

What would it look like though? Buying people for £40m who you expect to become worth 80? Isn’t that we’ve done already?

I guess our problem is that we've closed the gap on the top 6 already and now we're looking to go a level beyond that. Something which requires constant additions of top quality players and very few failed transfers.

They also lost to Monaco and Brugge.

The new format gives you more space to breathe if you’re a lower ranked team (like us and Villa). It’s no surprise Celtic made the knockout round for the first time in a billion years.

You could be right - but I think they’ve enough quality to keep them around for a couple of seasons.  They can’t afford any mistakes in the transfer market though.

I think they can.  They’ve got loads of saleable assets.
That’s Why we are goinf with ‘sure things’. We are the ones without wriggle room.  Our only saleable assets are our best players.

Everybody else is old or not very good. Their weakest starter is probably Marty Cash - he’s worth atleast £20m. Luca Digne even at 32 still screams £20-30m to Saudi.

Literally just had a daily standup meeting, talking to one of my Forrest fans colleagues and he says they do need to sell but MGW has only two years left and is refusing to sign new contract with City sniffing apparently so he expects him to go and Elanga to stay.
