Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Newcastle United (15/09/24) | Reaction: pg 51

Giving the ball away too cheaply yet again.  I've no idea what they're trying to do with the very short passing attempts but they need to knock it the fuck off as they're giving the ball away  too much or they're causing out own players to stop and retrieve the ball.

Yeah, poor half, no doubt about that.

Longstaff is an obvious lightning rod but the bigger issue is that we don't have a coherent or impactful attacking gameplan. Extremely passive and predictable, not apparently playing to anybody's strengths.

Early days but doesn't look like the break has given us anything. Hmm.

Yep. Been mostly the case away from home since August 2023.

ditto barnes when he comes on at 75mins and creates 5x as many chances as Murphy has

He will do it in a boring way though, so not worth it....

said it before they scored but really don’t get why we’re inverting Livramento. This is a player who is good at carrying the ball forwards and dribbling, not someone who can receive the ball with his back to goal in tight spaces and progress play with his passing. If we want to do that with a right back it really ought to be Trippier.

Or Hall doing it from left back as he's played centre mid before

Carbon copy of Bournemouth away. Dogshit.

I actually thought we had total control until they scored.  Not dogshit at all.  Knee jerk reaction?

Hall is up there because it's attacking play, where Longstaff is careless with the ball. Nothing Hall can do, can't play expecting your attackers to lose the ball.

Not Burn fault either, but he gets tight and seems to never learn he has no pace.

Main issues for me in that half, we're shit with the ball again. Just such a poor side with it and rely on individual moments which is all on Gordon. At least with Barnes, that's an extra player who can pick something from his ass, but nothing joined up in our play again.

No problem with Hall being up there and I accept it's part of his learning curve but when you lose possession, you've got to get back!

Left hand side has been good, right hand side doesn’t exist. Also sick of us not playing to Isak’s strengths. Joelinton has been complacent again. Mainly I’m sick to fuck off our right hand side. Get Tonali on immediately, and Barnes

Not trying to rag on him, but there were at least 3+ occasions we got in the final third and Longstaff touch killed the move and lost possible. Similarly, the ball dies when it gets to Murphy.

Two from Tonali, Willock and Barnes have to come on at HT

Just watched Livramento for their goal by the way… a shocking bit of decision making from him makes that a goal rather than an easily defendable situation.

Paul Merson saying that Gomes dummy is the best bit of skill we will see this season.

Our attacking coherence without Trippier is so poor. Everything looks off the cuff but they're all playing passively with barely any intent.

What makes this so tough to take is that they really don't look great.

Massive opportunity to separate ourselves further from some teams we'll be competing with.

So disappointing.
