Newcastle United 0-1 Brighton and Hove Albion - 19/10/25

We didnt take our chances, and I am bit worried that too much rests on Gordon and Isak. Midfielders are not really scoring, although Joelinton could and perhaps should, and without Trippier his set piece threat and crosses are missing. Isak is very isolated and I really can't see us scoring very much.

I’m struggling to take as much of a positive on the first 30 minutes as some seem to want to.

It’s quite a small % of the game the other 60 is far closer to what’s going to be the norm in a lot of games, teams camped in, allowing us the ball to break sides down, and it wasn’t that promising.

A lot of it was very comparable to Goodison, its  lacking purpose and accuracy.

Kind of saw this coming but we played better than I thought we would, I called it 1-3 in the pregame thread.

It's the same old issues - we're a counter attacking team built with pace with no guile in the final third. Unfortunately it's been a problem for over a season now, teams know they can just low block us and counter back.

At home I'd love to see:

                 Isak

Barnes    Gordon    Joelinton

          Bruno      Tonali

Feel like we have to do more to link the midfield and our forwards, and agree that formation would be class to see. I'd probably put Gordon right and Willock through the middle to see how that would work, hopefully a lot of fluidity and link ups with Isak. Just wish we'd see something a bit different from time to time.

Sorry but his set pieces have been shit for a long time now.

Hoping much of what we're seeing is just a few key players dropping out of form but unfortunately at the same time. If they've individually come to conclusion we're going nowhere (especially after a disastrous summer) as a club, then that rot will be very difficult to stop.

Wasn't a pen, unfortunately.

I thought it was borderline.

The more I think on it though the more I think it is a penalty. He can see the ball and was going down in control. He knew what he was doing handling it and could have easily not done.

I don't understand how the goals have dried up so much after scoring about a million times last season. Agree with general concerns about going stale, and you can easily picture us meandering to a disappointing mid-table finish on the basis of the season so far - but ultimately we're just badly under-scoring our xG atm. Absolutely mental that we didn't stick one away today.

Game hinged on Isak's chance in the first half.

Set pieces are wank.

Hall is class.

Love the lads.

The whole first half was very good.

I was ready to start posting about how well Howe was addressing all our problems of the season TBH.

Today I think Barnes for Murphy and see how it goes for ten minutes then willy for bruno if he was knackered.

Putting us into a 442 and I think we might of atleast drew.

Howe seems to go round the houses with his subs.

If we play like that every week, we'll be fine. This should've been a routine 3-0 based on easily convertible chances.

The 8 games so far underline the importance in January of signing a wide right and or forward as our top priority. Signing a defender can wait until summer.

Yeah I think there’s been a massive overreaction to a degree after yesterday. It could easily have been a routine 2 or 3-0

There is always going to be an overreaction when we lose at home. No way we deserved to win by a couple of goals though. We just didnt create enough or have a good enough defense to claim that.

Like I said when we won against Tottenham, the game isnt won by dominating possesion.

Isak should score first half and there were plenty of others but that’s football. If you don’t stick changes away teams can always stick it to you.

I was listening to the Geordie journos and I think they’re right saying that the team has gone stale particularly going forward.

Other than a couple of shots from bad angles and Gordons half as shot under pressure i dont remember any chances(other than Isaks one ofc.)

Fair doos, Gordon should score with a header though. The lack of RW creativity and goals on the right is killing us. If we had a decent RW that would at least spread the play a bit and create more space even if we don’t have a number 10 type player.
