I had to miss most of the second half. What happened? We played so well first half and were in complete control.

Can anyone answer this please?. Unemotionally preferably.

I was well happy with the first half. Only caught the last 10 of the second.

Steve Bruce was invited to do the team talk and manage the 2nd half.

We have one formation and if that doesn't work there is no plan B. One mistake should not result in a goal but it's happening time and time again.

Our subs follow the same system and are simply like for like replacements. We must be incredibly easy to set up against as teams know exactly what is coming.

And then there's Tottenham...

Disagree completely.

Tonali makes a big difference protecting the defenders. Brentford have been good going forward  at home, and we should have been wary of that.

Howe can keep going with the same sort of approach though, and we'll see how it ends up. It certainly won't be good.

Tonali lost possession a few times in dangerous positions and didn't protect our back 4 like, so not sure about that one. Joelinton didn't cover himself in glory for the first goal, but I didn't really put our conceded goals down to our midfield.

Not that I think he was uniquely bad either. For me Gordon was the real doubling-down on our capitulation. Not only was he poor, but him being there also took away from Barnes, Isak, Murphy and Hall. All of who were having effective games in an attacking sense.

Makes you almost miss the dark days under Ashley when you tried not to care. Could argue this almost feels worse. We're looking more like upper bottom half than 7-8th, and the reality of possibly never challenging near to top due to being strangled by anticompetitive rules and regulations.

Thats Mitchells job. He gets paid the money to do it. It's such a poor mans argument to do the whole "who should we change him with". I don't know and thats why we have employed a man to do this.

This is such a lazy reply. Enjoy the fireworks in sunderland tonight mate

No it's due to Howe.

Try to keep up, yeah? 😄

We got overrun basically. They just hunted us down and finished us.

But it is true. I don't get paid to find manager from obscure leagues or from other teams, look at what Liverpool did with plucking that bald guy from a under-par league as most people would call it. Thats what we hired a sporting director to do. To find someone that can follow a philosophy that he sets. You asked me to reply and after I actually give you the thoughts you default to some weird five year old throwing a tantrum, its honestly baffeling.

That really stings too tbh. I'll never dislike Howe, and would be very sad to see him sacked even if it's necessary. Really thought he'd be the one to bring us a cup win and regular europe.

(yes, I know we're still in both cups - but we're so utterly abysmal we'll 100% wilt against one of the cartel six at Wembley)

The drop off from our decent players to the dross is getting wider and Howe has no answers on how to fix it, we are going to end up loosing a good manager as the overall squad is not good enough.

But I suppose that is the aim of all these shit cartel rules that have been put in.

I used to think Eddie relied on his favourites too much, Miggy, Longstaff etc but it is clear he has no option to use them or the few decent players we have will be burnt out too quickly and I think he is actually trying to protect Tonali etc, yes he is stubborn, yes he likes to bed players in over a long period, but years of underinvestment are still biting us on the arse.

Bold to think we'd get past a 2 legged semi against any of those sides left.

Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth, Forest and Fulham would swap squads with us in a heartbeat IMO.

Personally, I'm at the point I don't trust anyone in front of the back four other than Tonali. Against Liverpool he killed a number of breaks in transition they had and was just far more convincing there defensively, as he gets back the quickest. Not to say he's perfect, but he's our best bet.

Today was just like West Ham, we looked great going forward but we got sucker punched by the other team, as we were unconvincing getting back defensively when we needed to.

Tonali was then thrown on late with a number of other players to chase the game, and the shape was completely lost and the play became disjointed. And so at that point it all looked rubbish and it's difficult to assess performances from that point onwards.

I’m not convinced Tonali and Bruno are ever going to work together consistently in this system. One of them is always going to be out of position to some extent.

You either change to a double pivot or you bench one, and it’s not going to be Bruno.

I disagree - we haven't really given it a chance. I'd prefer Tonali in the deeper role we've had as single pivot, and Bruno playing further forward passes (as he's only one that can do the unlocking ones). I think that's best. If we are playing either Tonali or Bruno, then whoever doesn't play will want to leave.

I don't know about the double pivot because never seen Howe do it for long spells, but open minded for him to try.
