Ipswich Town 0-4 Newcastle United - 21/12/24

Recommended Posts

Very enjoyable! Ipswich surrendered possession more times than you can count but we were irresistible with it at times. Hope nothing comes down to goal difference this season cos that should've really been 30-0.

Creating so many chances these days that we can rue our poor finishing despite scoring loads every game.

Back to looking like a very good football team. Hall class again, Bruno and Tonali as combining more and more as the games go, Miley looks like such a classy player, and looks massive now. So many positives from that, only down side is little Joe still not quite looking back to his old self, but it's more minutes in the legs.

A good result for us.

In reality we never got out of 2nd gear.

Much like last week, the win is no real indication of our own performance, or our form, but much more about the oppositions levels.

Nonsense I’m afraid.

Reminds me of a few seasons back, Eddie in his early stages, we did everything good in the tackle, today was a reminder how that aggressive play used to work so effectively. Many players pressed and won nearly all the challenges they committed themselves to.

Bruno and Sandro were both particularly good in the tackle, the fullbacks solid, everything flowed, we should really have scored about eight or more, however, I'm not sure why, but I think Leicester were actually worse than Ipswich, Ipswich actually had more about them, whereas Leicester just gave up.

More of this football please,

Reminds me of the great early days where we were building and stable, no ups and downs each week,  'consistency' is the word.

Ipswich mate said best side seen this season and the legs in middle was big.

This last week, admittedly against three poor sides, has shown we can get scoring. Take that and the confidence that comes with it, over a statement win and a defeat we’ve had before.

Confidence has to be there now in final which is massive before 3 huge games against sides we have to finish above if we want European football. Realistically, we have to come out of those games with 5 points minimum IMO.

Very good performance, very good result. Pressed high man to man and forced errors. Made plenty of chances. Saw it out in second gear at the end.

Thought Murphy was excellent. Bruno was bossing things. That outside-the-foot, first-time, volleyed crossfield ball to Gordon was sex on a stick. Isak getting a hat trick finally! Also nice to see Miley back and I thought he looked good, albeit we were in see-out-the-clock mode by then.

Obviously vs newly promoted team etc. I appreciated they still tried to play at 4-0 down and didn't just go into a deep block. They just didn't have the individual quality.

Anyway, a few tougher games coming up, but for now, merry fucking Christmas everyone!

7 points worse off than this stage last season but quite a few teams worse off or same other that Bournemouth, Forest, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Forest have double there points I think.

Having Bruno and Tonali in that midfield makes a lot of difference for how we play. Still think midfield sometimes goes missing when we press so high and other team breakthrough as then tons of space.

Cracking day. Felt for Ipswich tbh. Always liked them as a club. Maybe it's the SBR connection.

Isak, great.

Murphy, again a beneficiary but I'm happy with that. Good transfer candidate in summer if we need to raise funds. If he can get double digit goals that'd be great.

Tonali is a revelation. An added bonus I didn't appreciate until today is that he provide pace in the central defensive third when we're tracking back or lose possession. Something we've sorely missed and been exposed on quite a bit.

Great job everyone.

Having a CB with pace will help IMO, as they can press aggressively like we did in 22/23, which Schar half a yard of pace lost shows.

Isak "Buzzin"

Great stuff today. Really well controlled. Still a back of the mind niggle we don't convert enough of our chances but hard to worry about that when we won 4-0!

We are creating again well. In general the defence was solid too,one horror moment for Burn aside. Bring on a much much harder test in Villa.

Yeah true, probably why they wanted Guehi alongside Botman. Hope to fuck we can sign someone in Jan just to help push on a bit.

I know he wasn’t playing today, but I honestly think Joelinton is becoming the weak link in the centre middle, and he’s not exactly doing anything glaringly wrong either.

If you are behind the goal line, it’s classed as being on the goal line. He was partly on the goal line, and so was the defender.

You cannot go outside of the playing area (over the byline) to get away from offside position.

There’s some games where you want Joelinton in there. Others less so.

Guehi isn’t a RCB though. I always thought it was a really weird, lazy link until it became confirmed we’d bid.
