Newcastle United vs. Arsenal [EFL Cup]: 05/02/25 @ 20:00 (SkySports)

Recommended Posts

Many nervous shits today. Hopefully the actual team had 0 and smash the fuck out of tonight. Feels like it’ll be a massive first 60, probably be like 1-1 at best and then it’s shut up shop for final 30.

Based on the last game and their threat from those corners and set pieces, that might not be a bad shout.   Not played that shape for ages though, so not sure how that will play out.

My immediate thought with this was "When did they build a big screen outside the stadium, and why is it showing Cricket"

Ryder et al reporting Wilson has arrived.

Good to have him back an as option. For how long that may be remains to be seen.

Hasn't looked a good option since his 17th comeback at the end of last season mind.

We beat them away so I see no reason to change. We just need to up our performance compared to the last few games.

If we sit back and are too passive then I’m not confident. Because when we do we usually struggle even more in possession once we get the ball.

Not a fan of that formation tbh, feels like our midfield will be overrun.

Yeah. Trippier and Hall would be coming into midfield a bit I would have thought. But I’m guessing they will have been drilling this and Howe must have liked what he saw.

Whilst I don’t like the look of it on paper and I think it sends out the wrong message psychologically. This isn’t like the Pardew and Bruce days of just changing formation on a whim and almost week to week.

If we were to go with 5 at the back. You’d like to think it has been drilled extensively over the season at different times in training.

Howe loves having at least three big geezers in the set piece mix. Wouldn't be surprised if that's come into his thinking with no Joe.

True. They didn’t need to be their usual Stoke’like self against City though. Mainly due to big mistakes from City and some good fortune. But they barely relied on set pieces at all.

I’d rather we stuck with our same system and think we’d manage the game from open play much better that way.

We’ll find out what the team is in 27 minutes. I should probably just wait until then to comment
