[LCF] Newcastle United 2-1 Liverpool - NUFC LEAGUE CUP WINNERS

Recommended Posts

Woke up yesterday morning with optimism, but started to feel nervous the closer we got to kick-off and just wanted the game to be over with.

Was almost in tears at half-time since we were leading 1-0, but said to myself that I shouldn't be getting ahead of myself.

Hugged some of the folks around me at full-time.

All this after I hesitated about going to the game due to the exorbitant Club Wembley ticket price, injuries, suspension, our recent form and playing the league leaders.

Just a magical experience.

John Ruddy getting his first trophy [emoji38] Thought you'd have to participate to get a medal?

I'd be curious to know what's the criteria to get a medal. Do you at least have to be named among the subs, etc.

I've had a couple of people say it's a tin pot or very minor trophy

My reply is there's nothing minor about winning a trophy where we had to beat the currently 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed Premier League sides

Not sure how many of the past League Cup winners can say that

Aye, of course its now only 'Tin Pot' and 'minor' to some supporters as we've won it.

Look at the list of previous and repeat winners over the last 25 years that clearly didn't think it was tin pot. Even Liverpool would have loved to win it yesterday for Slot's first silverware.

Exactly. We have beaten Forest, Brentford, Chelsea, Arsenal twice and Liverpool. Arguably one of the most impressive cup wins in recent history.

It is also what this cup represents - you can feel the weight of those 56 years lifted off the shoulders of the club - that narrative is no more.  This is just the beginning.

Wow.. still pinching myself here I honestly thought I’d never see anything like that in my lifetime.
Bittersweet, my brother who passed suddenly a few years ago took me to my first game in 1978 I think, Swansea at home. We loved going to the match, bought me my first official pint in the George & Dragon. Bought me my first top, scarf & hat.
I feel he was cheated not seeing that yesterday but…

Had his photo on the mantle piece watching with me and I necked a brown ale for him afterwards.

Well done the lads they did it with style and humility. HTL

2 years ago I was offered a ticket for the league cup final and turned it down because I wanted to be with my boy when we win something. Today was one of the greatest experiences of my life watching that with him. He burst into tears at full time and we just cuddled for about a minute. That’s about as good as it gets to be honest lads.

It's the little details in this that knack me TBH, he brought that NUFC plate down from his room and put it on the table, my brother bought it for him when he was visiting a while back. His little NUFC football that he's had since he was 4.

this is me and my daughter yesterday in the pub when the whistle blew. Pandamonium around us but we just stood and hugged. Never thought i'd top the home PSG memory with her, but yesterday changed that :)

Yep, I didn't see any of the post match stuff live. Whistle went, turned to the bairn and said we've won it and that was us for a while. Luckily for both of us my wife was watching with us and took that photo.

Fucking hell, man [emoji38].
