Their nickname is very apt and I don't mean the Toffees one.
Skeletor Posted Monday at 10:35 Share Posted Monday at 10:35 Guess its funny. Their fans probably spunking themselves at the idea they were going to cost us Champions League only to see our players celebrating a trophy and CL at full time and them slinking back off into their irrelevant black hole. alexf Posted Monday at 11:22 Share Posted Monday at 11:22 Just going back to thinking about the game. It's been a common theme sometimes that any teams with fast athletic players cause us problems. Thought it in advance but was hopeful it wouldn't be an impact, but that N'Diaye caused us real issues by just being faster and more technical than our players. There couldn't get the ball off him. Beto alone just kept taking Pickfords long punts and getting the better of all of our back 3 no matter who he was up against. Was a real problem for us. Botman looked like he did last season when he returned from the first knee issue, just too slow and immobile to cope with 1v1. It definitely looked like our players were running on empty after a long season and maybe nerves got the better of them (which was surprising after we've turned up for big games quite often in recent times). But have to remember we were basically playing with 10 with Isak's lack of mobility. The 433 would have been better to start with in hindsight but who knows, the players could have easily played just as poorly no matter the formation due to the tension in their legs. Won't dwell on it now that it doesn't matter. But hopefully it's just evidence Eddie can use to help push through the signings he needs for squad depth next year. Wallsendmag Posted Monday at 12:02 Share Posted Monday at 12:02 Got in the ground very early yesterday (very rare for me) whilst the players were still doing their warm ups and the one thing I couldn't believe was how much water they were putting on the pitch. A lot of our players seemed to be struggling with their footing and a few of them slipped on their arses as well. Is it usual that the pitch is watered so heavily pre match? Think the slipping was less of a physical thing - Everton players weren’t slipping.

I also noticed that tbf. Just couldmt believe the amount of water they were putting on it but I'm never usually in the ground that early so wasn't sure if that's normal. Then the game started and I've never seen so many of our players falling on their arses before which got me wondering.
Newcastle Fan Posted Monday at 18:41 Share Posted Monday at 18:41 Was really impressed with how much of a handfull Beto looked against our best 3 CBS, managed to win most balls that came his way. N'Diaye also gave us a hard time.

However Big Dan Burn was much much better than a 4. Probably a 7.

Dan Burn slipped a couple of times, I think he did for the goal as well. Alcaraz or whatever his name is, gave him a pretty tough game all afternoon. gbandit
Aye, in fairness to Beto, he won more aerial duels than anyone else I can ever recall against Burn
