Being a good team and winning football games is the most important way to combat PSR though. If he's the difference in us getting to the Champions League once in his time here then he's basically paid for himself.

Winning games = prize money = sponsorship money = international appeal and fan income. A successful team can keep or charge more for its players. That's how you combat PSR in the long term. Judging transfers on pure profit potential is Brighton behaviour, though even they sign the odd experienced player to fill a short term need

eg. Trippier, he's been a PSR cost every year since he's come with no prospect of flipping for a profit, doesn't mean he hasn't been a very valuable signing and absolutely worth it.

Trips cost us 12m

These things are not the same, it was also a relegation battle at that time. He also had the reputation of a leader who is a model pro.

Very different profile.

Very happy that's 19 goals back plus Nick that should easily amount to a load more goals than Nutsak

No guarantees he will score the same amount.

Moving to a new team, even in the same league can be difficult, learning to fit into a new system, pressures of playing for a team pushing for CL etc. just look how it didn't work for Wood here but he's flourishing now at Forest.

Add in that he will take a while to get up to speed with no pre-season, away for a few games with AFCON and that he will be regularly rotated with Woltemade. I'd say 10+ goals would be a more realistic target.

Didn't think this deal was still possible.

Delighted we've managed to essentially replace Isak's goals in the league with someone that scored similarly well last season.

I'm also really happy for Wissa who gets his dream move to Newcastle who he's insisted on joining from the outset over other options.

If we have to allow our players dreams to come true elsewhere, then let others come here to make their dreams come true also.

With all that said, my favourite part of the deal is going to be observing how all the people that have been slating this fine fellow that ONLY wanted Newcastle, will now have to come to terms with him joining the club and scoring goals, and awkwardly navigating it all ;D

The fact he recognises that NUFC is a great move for him at least shows he has a footballing brain and some idea of the relative merits of all the clubs in this league.

I think the best example of this is Ramus Hoijlund @Froggyplease correct me if I'm wrong but once he completes the obligation you guys actually come out with an accounting profit correct?

I think so, if not it'll be extremely close. Sources saying his book value is anything from £38m to £43m.

Total package for him will be €50m if the clause is triggered. €50m is around £43m.

He's gone on about this move the same way as Isak, personally I can't be happy for him and his dream move when he's been a  dick to Brentford.

But I am happy we have him though.

55million for him, laughable really. I guess we need to replace the rat with another rat. Tbf he was always coming in when Isak left, it’s the easy option.

I think 'slightly too much' would be a better description. Laughable FFS - is 45m fine but 55 is laughable? Makes no sense.

45 is not fine either! Let’s see how he fairs.

Ah well fair enough, I don't know how much would be fine then.

I'd say 35 would be ridiculously cheap based on his goals, so it has to fall somewhere in the range we're talking about

Probably Eddie's choice of rat tbf. What do you think about that?

Mad on here, 55m is too much for a proven Premier League striker who the manager wants.. We are probably overpaying by 5-10m but so fuck??

We probably overpaid for Elanga , Nick the German and Ramsey.. Don’t stress about it!

That’s a reasonable fee for a very good PL striker with 2 years remaining. I don’t think we’re in a position to seek some moral high ground by only signing players who behave impeccably at their clubs. Ideally we wouldn’t have to do this but we’ve been put in a really difficult position by Isak and we’ve ended up with a very good PL striker who can go immediately and an extremely promising young lad.
