We really need this lad fit and firing sooner rather than later

So, seeing as he's gonna be missing for a few games,as things stand, and if we are lucky get a few out of him, followed by AFCON, would we of been better off keeping hold of Wilson for one final season?

Imagine the meltdown if we’d have kept Wilson? 😂

If we’d kept him we may well not have had Wissa at all. The desperation to over pay by about £20m just wouldn’t have been there.

Last season Wilson missed 29 games though various injuries.

Wissa will miss 7 games if he's back for Brighton, and miss 7 games due to AFCON if DR Congo get to the final, so a total 14 games.

So to answer your question, no, we would not have been better.

Is his leg going to fall off at the end of the season?

There are 13 games between his targeted return date and the commencement of AFCON.

Wilson is finished and would have just as likely been crocked as well.

Yeah there's no argument there to keep Wilson at all, maybe we would have got a little more game time out of him in the short run but if you've watched him at all for West Ham then I think he would have been just another useless body, sadly his legs have gone, fit or not he no use to anyone now. Wissa will likely miss the best part of 15 games but will still offer more over the season than 2025 Wilson ever could.

Really hope this isn't Botman 2.0. Where he's back, but after a short period he's in discomfort and surgery is needed. Bit twitchy that we only have him back for a short period and he's off to ACON where the knee could explode.

Wilson was like having no striker.

Wilson scored 0 goals for us last season and looked a shadow of the player. Even if he was fit for more games, he's sadly no longer good enough.

Wissa also scored 0 goals for us last season though in fairness to Wilson.

I think £30m in the bank for Osula, and Wilson on buttons as third choice would've been areet tbh.

Exactly. On top of that we'll still get £25-30M for him when we inevitably bin him off to Saudi at 32-33

No.

Listening to Talk Sport at the weekend during the West Ham match and the commentator even said 'bless him' in relation to Wilson [emoji38] Was along the lines of can't beat his man anymore, can't hold anyone off anymore etc etc.

👆🏻 here's the receipt. Love Cal, but was time to move on likely two seasons ago.

Even though I continually said no to DCL during the summer, I now think I was wrong. I'd rather have him as third choice striker to Osula. If we can pick up another half decent striker in January I'd be chuffed as Wissa is missing a lot due to these marathon travels to play for his country.

Every team needs at least 3 decent strikers, so if one gets injured you're not relying on playing one to death because there is nobody else.

You’ve contradicted yourself by including DCL and ‘decent’ strikers in the same argument.

I think our medical backroom team is much improved since then?

I think most people would take DCL as a third striker, but we were mostly assuming he would be second or even first.

We should have offloaded Wilson and Osula, ran a mile from Wissa at that price, signed Woltemade and 2 other strikers at the bargain end of the market. As another poster mentioned DCL would indeed be a big improvement on Osula. Even the likes of (Irish lads) Evan Ferguson and Troy Parrott, would be a step up from Wilson/Osula, and wouldn't have cost too much.

Wissa signing looks insane. 55m for a speedster who's at the age where he'll start to lose his speed. Plus he did an Isak to leave which makes him harder to cheer for and takes away any moral high ground we could have claimed on that.

Wissa is more than a speedster, a lot more and Having seen plenty of Parrot there’s little chance he’ll ever make a dent in the PL. I probably would have taken a punt on Ferguson though who I do think is a better long term bet than Osula.
