His miss was inexcusable but I thought we looked more functional up top with him as a focal point, with Woltemade behind him.

I may be dead wrong, just my opinion, and it doesn't mean he's suddenly a good signing or anything.

agreed. We will never know how these two players work together because we seldom play them together,

Terrible finish obv but considering how bad he's been, today was an overall improvement in the sense that he actually attempted to play football.

Did he? Other than the awful finish and fouling their players he hardly touched the ball.

Again the sort of performance an academy player can put not a 55m signing.

He just needed to wait another moment for the ball to drop, a fraction of a second.

Easier said than done in a packed stadium of 60 thousand people.

So yes it is not inexcusable, you're right.

However 55 million pounds is a lot of money.

I think it’s easy to have that take watching it live but having watched it a few times now, Raya is two yards in front of him when he volleys and is coming out of his goal. He volleys it at two or three foot in the air, so if he waits for it to bounce the chance is gone completely.

The other thing I noticed watching it back is Woltemade’s ball is moving to the left all the time. So not only is it a dropping volley over his shoulder but it’s also forcing him to move laterally and the further left the ball travels, the tougher the angle becomes on his stronger foot.

I think it’s probably a chance a Premier League striker only scores 20%-30% of the time max.

To me his misses are so bad that it's clear that is a mentality thing and not an ability thing.

Not totally given up on the lad yet, his movement for one is one thing we sorely lack.

He didn’t have to volley it, could have just guided it from that distance

It’s very easy to say that but he’d have had to guide it on the volley still which is an objectively harder technique than going for power. I also don’t think guiding the ball improves the chances of scoring much - if you look at where the ball lands and where Raya is stood, the only place to really guide it is the very left of the goal which is a tough shot (because the ball is moving left and the way he has had to open his body to sight the ball, pretty much the entire right side of the goal is impossible).

He’s obviously been pap but it wasn’t as easy a chance I thought at the time. Raya also does a very good job of getting out to him quickly.

Should’ve obviously tried to hit it down into the ground like the Swedish rat always does.

Nice little quote in Guardian re this flops finish:

“Had Yoane Wissa not addressed his late chance at the Emirates with all the cold precision of a man playing in a set of fishing waders,”

Probably sums him up nicely…

Chris Waugh in The Athletic reporting that we're actively looking to move him on in the summer for a big loss, but that he wants to stay. 25% sell on clause as well

[emoji38] actively wants to stay as his next destination is a club consistently scrapping to stay up / yo-yoing

Left for a quick trip to the store thinking about how he's worth keeping and maybe he'll hit some form after a real preseason.

Walked back into my apartment 10 minutes later to that notification. Guess not then
