So which way do you want the pendulum to swing?

Jackson to us and Watkins remains or Jackson to Villa and Watkins to us?

Neither really. What a mess the club has got itself into. I mean to not be able to find an Isak replacement without much preparation time is forgivable in a sense, but to not find a Wilson replacement is pretty much pure negligence. I understand the Wissa situation is not in our control, but surely there should have been a plan B or C started by now

Watkins would be brilliant for us, can’t believe anyone thinks otherwise tbh.

I didn’t find him overly impressive yesterday but that’s probably more because our center backs were marvelous.

but have been a proponent of getting him if it meant we’d finally have a striker of quality.

That’s just one game, can happen to anyone. He’s caused us massive issues in the past. He’s quality, guarantees goals, has big game experience and I think he’d love to play for us.

Who's to say there isnt a plan B or C? We've been here before all window and things have worked out pretty well. Lets see where we are in two weeks time.

I think this 2 weeks time quote has been going on for months.

EH specifically said he wanted signings in early and this is what the brass delivers?

Sorry, I’m sure we’ve worked on other plans, but by now we should have had a Wilson replacement ready to go, especially with the Isak situation being known for at least a month. Not many players around who can genuinely improve us or replace Isak’s role, but to not even have a backup striker in with the season already started…? I’m really disappointed and worried that we’ll now splunk a huge amount on someone we don’t really want and that will set us back mid to long term.

He also said 3 days ago that it doesn't always work out like that and acknowledged that everyone involved had worked tirelessly to get bodies in early.

Its 100% far from ideal and no doubt mistakes have been made. But I don't see a situation where we spend loads on someone we dont want, EH just doesnt work like that, he wont do it.

We'll get what we need I'm pretty sure of it. I think we're just going to have to trust them and hold our nerve.

People became obsessed with those Howe quotes and took them way too literally. Every manager wants players in ASAP but the transfer window rarely works like that outside of the massive clubs with infinite money. It was silly to judge our dealings based on that.

My pal who's been a Chelsea season ticket holder for decades said he would happily give NUFC a few quid as a donation towards us taking Jackson off their hands

Make of that what you will

Feels like he tends to imply transfer dealings aren't up to snuff when managed by an outsider (someone who could be a threat to his authority), but now makes excuses when family members are directly responsible.

Starting to feel like Howe's on-field success is almost forcing PIF to give him the final say on transfers... which is perhaps the bigger reason for Ashworth & Mitchell wanting out - and we're now left with wet behind the ears, nepo hires trying to cut deals.

The former. Much prefer Jackson to Watkins.

Maybe, maybe not. But I’d argue he’s earned the right to have final say on transfers regardless. All the players he brings in have to be of the right mentality, age and of certain level of ability. He’s nailed it so far.

I don't think its silly when its repeated every year. In fact repeating this last minute crisis every year is what's "silly". Last year it was on the defensive side, now its switched to the other end of the pitch!!

He's a really clever forward too, and a late bloomer like Vardy, so may get more mileage than you'd expect out of him.

He'd be my pick but don't think it happens.

Matt Law Tekegraph:

“Other than Sterling, Chelsea are looking to arrange sales or loans for Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and potentially Tyrique George over the next fortnight. Aarón Anselmino also has interest from Europe but the club’s position on his future is currently not clear”

Feel like Jackson has gradually transformed from being a footballing meme to being Pelé's regen over the course of this summer.

He's literally the bang average lass that suddenly looks like an absolute worldie after you've had a dry spell.
