I can see him drifting to Lewis Hall’s side as he gets it. Yeah, it's so frustrating. We occasionally get a glimpse of what's possible, but not anywhere near enough. Maybe once or twice a game currently. It's quite pathetic. The way we turn down early passes into him to play sideways to Burn and Trippier constantly, is maddening. Especially as those two just give it away anyway. My frustrations with Tonali and Bruno at the minute are through the roof. I thought they'd relish playing passes into him for quick interchanges and the like, especially on the edge of the box when he shows for the pass. Bruno in particular keeps turning that pass down and forcing the issue or taking a terrible shot. Our midfielders really lack subtlety.

I had visions based on his unreal control of using subtle balls around the corner to get Gordon, Barnes and Elanga sprinting on to them and really stretching the opposition defence. I don’t think they’ve used that once.

I meant someone looking to break an offside trap but also someone’s who will be in the 6 yard box for tap ins. Wolte offers neither.

Wolte is a very intelligent player with incredibly good passing skills. Unfortunately, there are too few teammates who reach his level. I think Barnes and Gordon are the most likely to complement him as wingers. I also don't understand why Bruno and Tonali don't play him in for one-twos more often. ElDiablo
Shades of us booting it up to Joelinton when he first joined and taking ages to work out it didn't work. He's a pure footballer in a team of limited poise and technique. It's a recipe for him to struggle. He'd be class for Arsenal or City.

midds
Desperately needs someone playing ahead of him, he's not a 9. He's doing his best but he's not going to thrive being the tip of the front 3 at all, he needs options and movement ahead of him for him to be a threat
John P
We don't seem to be using his strengths at all. His clips for Stuttgart all seemed to be him pulling into wide areas and creating from there, or playing off another striker and linking up with him. We just struggle to involve him much in the game, and we need to get him on the ball as much as possible as he is one of the few players we have who has a bit of creativity in the final third

Vinny Green Balls
Really wish he could've been eased in. He's done very well considering. But circumstances haven't been helping him.

It is more the case that he hasn’t developed and progressed from early positive signs in the way he/we/they hoped. We need to set up differently or if mountain isn’t going to move then Mohammed needs to get his arse further up the pitch more often. Erikse
https://streamable.com/lsxvwg Here's an example. Drops deep to link up with the midfield. In one way that's what creates this chance. However he is far too slow to be able to get into a dangerous position for a cross. It looks like he's just jogging after releasing the ball to Bruno, and he even stops towards the end of his run, as if it's deliberate to stay back. I guess Barnes is looking for Murphy with his cross here, and Wolte is staying out to catch a rebound or second ball? Other than lack of pace, I don't understand why he wants to stay back here, but maybe that's on me. I also think similar situations are where the pace is a bit of an issue with our style when he drops deep so much. Matt1892
We are playing with the same tactics we did when Isak was here, despite him being a completely different type of striker, which isn’t getting the best out of him and we are suffering for it. I am not convinced Howe partners him and Wissa either, in the same way he hasn’t partnered him with Osula when we have been chasing games. The wide forwards need to play narrow for the current set up to work, yet they hug the touch line and we often have nobody in the middle.

gbandit
Can’t believe the shit I’m reading here. This lad has pulled several rabbits out of the hat playing in a new team with wingers producing nowt and full backs who can’t advance up the pitch and stretch the play. We’ve been static as fuck and he’s been one of the few positives we’ve had all season. It would be nice to have more movement to stretch teams however, it’s other people’s failings mainly that have meant teams have been very comfortable defending behind the ball

Aiston
Outside of Barnes vs Athletic, I struggle to think of many good chances we've actually created Woltemade so far. I'd say maybe 3 or 4, which is completely unacceptable really.
Erikse
I think we will see what we've been missing upfront when Wissa is back and fit. I'd fancy Wolte behind him, though, if Howe dares to try that type of formation. Edited November 9, 2025 by Erikse
