I think the issue is he’s not an out and out striker and still lacks some physicality for this league and I’m not entirely sure Howe will ever play a formation to get the best out of him. I like him, he’s done well so far but equally I have some question marks about him. Doesn’t hold the ball up nearly well enough for me.

Regardless of his position - he doesn’t have a strikers instinct.

Barnes isn’t a striker either. But he has a strikers instinct. Barnes is trying to get a clean contact on that and on target with his left.

Woltemade doesn’t have the instinct. Hopefully he can develop it.

He’ll bulk up and learn I guess. Takes too many touches too, he’ll have to learn to stop doing that too which I’m sure he will.

The lack of a striker instinct is also a concern for me. Mind against Chelsea he showed that?

Do we have to do this every time a result doesn't go our way? In hindsight he should have shot first time, but what have we learnt? We already knew he needs to attack the box better and be more effective with his frame, but he's doing pretty well this sesson all things considered.

Some of the sweeping statements about him and Wissa this evening have been well over the top.

Did he win a header?

Not even that. There was a couple of times he was put in on goal against a defender and he lost the tussles both times. Just needed to cut across his man and show some strength.

My issue with him isn’t tonight, he just doesn’t suit how we play at all imo.

He won’t score if he doesn’t shoot. Even on that diving header. I felt like he could have got to that if he attacked it with more intent.

I know you can’t change someone’s approach and personality. But he just lacks a bit of fire and aggression that I think would make him great.

Agreed.

Massive fan of his but tonight, really not a good appearance. Cannot believe he's not hit that first time. And then never quite in the right attacking space to get on the end of productive balls

Never looks like scoring, even earlier in the season when he literally was scoring.

The chance towards the end is absolutely criminal for an attacking player never mind a striker. You absolutely have to try to get a shot away early there.

He forced three saves from Donnarumma in the league game. Yes, he could have done better, but it was only one half chance. Not enough for sweeping statements on his abilty.

All Haarland managed today was to stand in an offside position and get a goal disallowed.

I thought he looked more likely to score, was getting in good positions and putting himself about. Inches away from Bruno's ball in.

The shooting is infuriating though. I don't think we'd ever be annoyed at a striker shooting too much. Just shoot ffs that's your job.

Yeah, I would have scored that. Bust a gut!
