Not strong enough and not nasty enough.

Great technical fundamentals but will need a shit load of development to be effective sustainably.

He’s done incredibly well to have the goals tally he’s got and that’s probably saving him from much rasher judgement imho.

I don't know what he is position wise.

I'm the same. Where does he actually play? It's not as complex as the Joelinton centre forward conundrum (never ever a centre forward), but I'm not sure he's capable of being our number 1 striker or a target man. Eddie will no doubt sort it.

He's a great player just won't make it here under Howe. Doesn't have Howeball attributes.

Probably an opportunistic buy hoping to flip a la Isak.

Massively disagree on everything other than he’s a great player

He’s been here circa 6 months - carried the load for the first 4 months then becomes a regular starter for Germany to boot  - first time he’s not had a winter break - fixtures been brutal - intensity of the football he has never experienced

I’m not sure what else he can do

Yes there’s aspects he’ll improve on but people can’t write him off after half a season like - that’s crazy - he has a very good future here imo

Who’s writing him off?

if we brought him on to hump long balls at him then we should have left wissa on to play off him.

but he really looks bereft of confidence and terrified at the moment.

Honestly think he’s going to be class for us next season as I said the other day. Full pre season under his belt, Howe working with him to improve his development areas.

He's shown a lot of talent and carried the goal scoring load early doors, beyond the expectation of most, myself included.

However, he's struggled to attack the box of late and can't possibly develop, as per Isak. Like loads have said, don't know how he could possibly fit us and we should either play him wildly out of position or sell imminently.

Those who say he isn’t the right fit

I don’t think it’s an unfair view to suggest he isn’t the right fit for this Newcastle side.

Next years might be built around him.

In fairness to everyone involved, Howe and the coaching staff didn’t have time to accommodate him or plan for him and he’s done really well with some of his contributions to date.

I dare say neither would be delighted if this is how his NUFC career panned out in the long term though in respect of how he fits and the team functions in the final third.

Yeah, I would have scored that. Bust a gut!

You really wouldn't have

Absolutely baffling to criticise him for that attempt to head the ball, the cross was just a fraction away from him, he stretched as much as he could and only being a bit taller would have allowed him to connect

He’s quite clearly a number 10. Anyone thinking he should be a target man is lazily just looking at his height.

I disagree. He came through the ranks as a number nine, but he's still developing his game.

I like him and it's obvious he's a good player, but he's never going to suit how we play whilst Howe is here.

If we don't plan on changing style I think I'd be happy to get our money back in the Summer.

Screw that. He's doing better than people we wanted instead of him. Delap, Pedro, Sesko etc

Keep him and let Howe have a summer with him to work his magic

He’s not a fucking 10. He is a technical stiker who’s still massively a development project to us who needs to improve his movement and killer instinct. He has played very little first team football but we paid huge sum for him so we need him to perform for us when chances come his way. (Right or wrong) and he is a good lad who likely will tell the press the same thing.

all that being said he’s done brilliantly for us in all comps to get us where we are.
