Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Newcastle United (10/12/25) | post-match from pg. 61

Recommended Posts

Another lead lost, thought that was in the bag even with the 2 posts and the great save.

Must win now against PSV really, could so easily have 5 more points on the board now and the last 2 games not matter

Really not sure about Ramsdale, hope Miley starts on Sunday instead of consistently disappointing Joelinton.

Our wingers are usually knackered to be fair, they get through a lot of work. It's where I'd hope Elanga would be able to come on and relieve some pressure with his pace but it's not happening

That's it. Not so long ago we made the most subs and they were usually attacking as in replacing legs from forward players.

The likes of Murphy, Elanga, Willock, Wissa etc should have been on earlier for that reason.

He's got some kinda weird hybrid-cockney accent and it's fucking awful. Not as bad as mackem, but aye

I mean, I am from the same town  as both of them and have had to tone down use of dialect etc  (lived away for decades) but accent wise it is pretty clear where I am from. Why change the preferred voice of the call centre employee?

Is there some kinda betting market for late goals conceded? I feel like we could all make bank when the inevitable happens (then happens again. And again...), it'd certainly quell some of the frustration

Bet in play probably the best way....it's how I noticed it was 2-2 as I went to put draw on

It's a good point but again poorly conceded goals.

When you consider that we were nearly looking at a penalty that would have made it 2-0 and being down to 10 men, it's a good point despite the annoyance of conceding yet another late goal.

First one is just unlucky. Second is an awful goal to concede, though they do work it well from our mistakes.

Keepers train for that situation. They should stop a shot off a midfielders arse from a foot out.

edit: If anyone assumes I think Ramsdale is good, I don't. I just don't think he was shit today and certainly not the reason we didn't get all 3. I'd prefer Pope but that will light another fuse I suppose.

Yip. Draw about fair but if either had to be given it, our two off the post gives it our way. Fine margins and all that

The first half had the ball pinged about at high speed more impressively by them. However, in terms of chances, it was them scoring from their chaotic corner off Bruno's bum and us poking our chaotic corner narrowly wide. Flekken also impressively stopped their valiant attempt at scoring an own goal.

We were definitely lucky with that and it could have been curtains very early in the game.

Even though in the grand scheme of things, it’s a good point. I woke up just as pissed off as full time last night.

Certainly agree with others mentioning how fine the margins are. I said similar on here when discussing how we view the players after a positive or negative result.

But it is the fact we have yet again dropped points from a winning position and more annoyingly, because of a late goal. That is what is pissing me off. More so than the performance itself. Which bar a crap 25 minutes or so in the first half. Was decent overall.

If we didn’t concede say half of these late goals. Then the season might look very different and the conversation around our season would be a lot more positive.

As it is. Howe needs to yet again work his magic and get a glaring weakness sorted. Because it’s becoming a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy now. You can see the late goal coming.  It’s in the fans heads and I guess the players’, too!

Agree. But it also shows how poor we were in that first half. I don't know what's happened to our pressing game but it seems any half decent side can pass all around it then break our lines with a couple of well executed through balls. It works fine against the weaker sides, but the better sides in the CL have exposed us.

A win would have felt like Christmas come early, but we didn't really deserve it.

Aye, which is frustrating of course.

Still a good point, which pretty much guarantees we progress. Decent game too.

You're really not getting it are you. Now is the time to throw your toys out the pram because we only drew away to Leverkusen in the champions league. How dare they throw everything at us, push us back and equalise.

If it was a one off you woud be right. How many last minute goals have we conceded this season? If you don't think it's a problem, then you might want to have a word with Eddie Howe, because he has sounded pretty pissed off after these blunders.

Both things can be true.

I don't know what that means, you are probably right. I'm just saying our defending has been pretty bad this season.

Just that it was a good result and a good second half performance that we can be encouraged by.

But also we conceded another soft late goal, which has become a trend this season.

Yeah, sadly that's how it works in football (and life) sometimes. What feels like a very disappointing result was twice just a millimetre away from being a historic, legendary result.

I doubt there would be a single negative comment on here, or anywhere else, if we had come away with the 3-1 or 3-2 victory our second half performance probably deserved.

Probably because the midfield and attack has been even worse, if you can't maintain attacks with any great regularity you're going to put extra stress on the defence.

How we've played this year is just fundamentally broken, I don't know enough to know how to fix it but I do know what I see is not fit for purpose.
