I don't see the need for all the updates our "journos" were given. Unless of course that was leaked to inform everyone else of the progress and invite others, which I suspect it was. It'll also not have been in real time and rather selective of what was actually happening from the player side. From the sounds of things it wasn't even us that delayed it.

I think given the fact our press pack were all over this one, someone from the club was feeding information, which makes sense they probably had assurances from the lad it's done and they wanted to get it out they mean business it's a new era etc.

Maybe just slightly so, in that they don't seem to have the right idea of who they can realistically attract for what role.

We can't be after this Munoz kid to come in initially behind Barnes, when the likes of Liverpool are also pitching to him to come in as a squad player to develop too. We'd have had to be offering him a first team place or much more first team opportunities in order to sway him.

That's essentially what Brighton would have done with the Zadok Yohanna kid.  While we would have been pitching to him that he would start off as a squad player to develop further and push for a first team place. Brighton likely told him he'd be in the first team for meaningful games right away.

We need to re-evaluate who we are looking at and for what sort of role in the team.

There's no way he would have been told he's going to be second choice. Even if we couldn't guarantee him a starting place first game of the season, he'll have been told he's been bought to replace Gordon.

This Munoz isn't your average punt on a cheap young player from abroad. Ex Madrid academy, deal with Osasuna, capped already. As long as he's playing for Osasuna he's a relatively cheap buy for an obviously widely regarded prospect, as soon as he moves from there you're paying a lot more for him. There will have been clubs on alert to that, ready to jump in just because they can. Probably happy to leave him at Osasuna another year to develop so long as no one is in for him.

I'm not THAT bothered about missing out on this particular player. What annoys me is that we haven't been ruthless and decisive enough.  If we had been so then we probably would have had a better chance of getting him. Also we might not have got him anyway, but then at least we wouldn't have wasted as much time as we have now.

Some might argue that a few weeks isn't a long time. Personally I think so, especially when you consider how many players we need to sign. We can't allow ourselves getting played. We have to be more determined and ruthless and just walk away if it starts dragging out time wise. Feels like most transfers we've been involved in lately have taken quite some time. Yes I know football and PSR and all that shit sucks, I agree. Having said that we could most certainly have done things differently.

Also, it feels like Tonali will most likely be leaving. Are we just gonna wait before we step up our search/talks like properly? I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised. All these "not so long negotiations" add up quite quickly into a lack of time when we get closer to the season.

Need to just go and put proper money down for Nusa or Fernandez-Pardo and show we're serious - even if it means paying slightly over the odds. One of the guys from the Geordie Journos channel made a good point that if the next breaking news out of Newcastle is Tonali departing, it begins to look and feel a bit bleak.

The next thing we hear needs to be for one of those lads and that the deal is 100% done, medical underway, etc.

100%.

Not really sure why we are messing about over payment structures anyway, you would think PIF backing would mean we could just bankroll these ourselves.

Were only allowed to be average and sign average players and if they're any good, farm them to the eternal elite and be charged a lot more for the privilege because were at least trying not to be now then in previous generations under previous owners.

They couldn't have stitched the sport up any better if they'd openly just admitted that's what they were doing.

We sold Gordon without clear plan who’s his replacement. So it’s going to be Tonali sold before we even start negotiations on new player. We are going to end up with some Prem proven player who nobody else is willing to pay, like Tielemans for £45 million.

We could easily strike deal with Bundesliga players quickly because business there is very straight-forward and with different owner models bigger transfer offers are much more likely accepted quicker.

Hard not to think that Liverpool just loves screwing us over in particular. They undermined us with Isak, snuck in on Ekitike, and now pipped us to Munoz.

I wouldn't mind any of that - obviously we have no divine right to any players - if we hadn't have sold them Isak after they got in ahead of us for Ekitike. No point debating it, it's been done to death, but It still boils my piss that we didn't take a stand in those circumstances, take whatever fallout there was from it and at least let it be known that we can't be fucked around, regardless of the price.

We knew of the interest and still took our sweet time haggling over a fee that ultimately was just about a rounding error to what Liverpool paid. Good job NUFC heriarchy. You lost time, you lost credibility, you lost some faith from your fans, and you will lose more money now that you have to sign a more expensive player.

Could be that Liverpool was just waiting for us to finish negotiating, and then the agent was going to contact them when we had an agreement, to inform them with the details? Meaning that if we managed to agree on something earlier, they would have hijacked it earlier. Liverpool has been interested for a while, I doubt that they were sleeping for weeks while everyone knew that we were working on a deal, and just randomly happened to wake up now as we were getting super close to the finish line.

The player and agent might have wanted to know every detail from our side before getting a counter offer from Liverpool to make the decision. Maybe they even used us to get more money out of Liverpool, by saying that they needed to improve on the terms by a certain amount compared to our offer.

So the story is that Liverpool were at the table the whole time, but the agent and player told us, no, he doesn't want to go to Liverpool, he wants to come to Newcastle? Then he went to Liverpool.

So just to string us along and keep us around as a backup in case Liverpool change their mind. We need to be more street smart than that.

But then the occasion where the player does genuinely want us, we walk away?

If this is true and he and his agent have used us and lied to us, as they wanted Liverpool, then I believe we are well within our rights to boo, hiss and try to undermime his confidence everytime he touches the ball at SJP. Let’s make the place a bear pit and make it so players who do us dirty get hell. It might only bother them for 1 day a year, but let’s make them feel 2 inches tall for that one day.
