I guess not.

Weirdly the A-League was founded in 2004 so you can pretty much track the decline from that point on. Not that correlation necessarily equals causation.

Nope, not anymore. Kuol was one of our brightest prospects, irakunda, Circati and toure have potentially decent ceilings as well, but when you look at players like our captain today Souttar, whose been injured for so long and plays for Leicester. We never capitalised and grew from our 2006 squad. Can be blame on all kinds of infrastructure problems here, but prime Mooy would be the best player for us if he was on the field by far.

Apart from Almiron, have we bought any MLS players? Lot of teams have made good transfers from there.

Brad Friedel had his work permit been approved.

There’s only ever been 12 transfers from the MLS to the PL, and 3 or 4 of them have hardly ever played.

Just had a look at that squad and hadn't fully appreciated how chalk and cheese it is from now. Star man Craig Moore in there as well.

Yanks look like they really enjoy the occasion. McKennie is also a lot better than I recalled.

He's had a few good seasons with Juventus recently. He's moved a bit further forward and that's helped a lot

I presumed there had to be something there. Lack of academies when those franchises came in to replace the clubs that disappeared?

Irony is Australia missed out in 1998 and 2002 losing difficult one-off play-offs - teams which would have cruised AFC qualifying every time since.
