madras
The insidious American term "assist" which has crept into the game over the last ten years. What were they called before? A pass. "good ball" some of you may have guessed that some people use "assists" to gauge how good a player is, is one of my pet hates.
WarrenBartonCentrePartin
'set up', 'set him up' & 'was set up by' I tend to use.

AliGupter
Assists are equally as important as goals, obviously. Watching a footballer play is much more important than both.
AyeDubbleYoo
Assists are fairly meaningless if it only means the final pass though, there could have been a passing move that 6 or 7 players were involved in, all whose contribution is ignored. I agree it's a bit of a worry if a winger has 0 assists, but other than that I take them with a pinch of salt unless I remember the specific incidents. Yes, in the same way that I take goals with a pinch of salt. Watching football has always been, and will always be the only way to rate a footballer. Mr. Snrub
This new breed of football fan who uses Football Manager and Wikipedia as their source of information and turn every argument into how any goals/assists certain player has.
Ameritoon
This new fad people have of calling the Premier League the "EPL." Fucking clowns. Let's go watch some soccer goals in the EPL dude! This is the worst. Whenever Americans say this they're always the one's who say "pitch" and "darby."
Keefaz
I like it when they say "PreMEER League". Foreign idiots.
Guest Brummiemag
Commentators and tv pundits talking about the Premier League and coming out with crap like Blackpool have never played in the Premier League, or such and such is a premier league record etc Its like football didn't exist before 1992 and it completely devalues everything that happened and everything that was achieved before that time - as if somehow it is less significant Complete hype and bullshit basically
Incognito
Made by was the old term for assist, and far better it was too. We don't need Yankisms, its our game,we invented it.
Kaizero
Assist >>>>>>>> any other word(s) for it.
Mr. Snrub
'set up', 'set him up' & 'was set up by' I tend to use. Is the right answer. Anyone who played football when they were younger knows this.
Village Idiot
FWIW in Spain an assist was a "goal pass" (pase de gol), and a lot of people/media still use that word. "Assist" feels like I'm watching basketball to me.

So "Goals column" and "set ups" Assists sounds more professional. "Top seterupper"
Vinny Green Balls
Over the head clapping. Oh, the magnitude of gaiety when any player commits this atrocity. Who is the asshole who started the trend?
Disco
Over the head clapping. Oh, the magnitude of gaiety when any player commits this atrocity. Who is the asshole who started the trend? Eh? It's surely clapping so the crowd can see that you are acknowledging them? non?
Vinny Green Balls
certainly it is. That does not detract from its gaiety. give a thumbs up ffs.
Mr. Snrub
certainly it is. That does not detract from its gaiety. give a thumbs up ffs. Yeah, 50,000 people sitting there with their thumb up wouldn't look at all ridiculous.
Vinny Green Balls
that would be the case if I was talking about 50,000 supporters, and not the player who is acknowledging them.
Mr. Snrub
Oh right. Like when they go off subbed? I like when a player does that.
JH
"Managers should be given time. Just look at SAF and Wenger" fucks me right off. Yes, there are some managers that aren't given enough time, but to criticise clubs/fans who get on the back of a manager early on because he 'might' somehow end up being as great as the two greatest managers in the Premier League is fucking stupid. A manager should give some indication in the early days that he will bring the club something. If he doesn't, people have the right to complain.
