Albert Luque (now retired)

I'm sorry like, he was NOT 'fucking class' on his debut against Man Utd. He did ok and missed a sitter near the end. And that's what I thought at the time too, rather than something based on what happened afterwards. I accept he had some bad luck with injuries and so on in his time here but he didn't help himself either.

Skinned Ferdinand though to create that sitter. ;)

Good player that became a victim of his surroundings. There was a quaestion mark on whether he would produce over here regardless.

Everything went tits up for the lad. Injuries, change of managers, standard of football and it got to him big style.

The question is would he have failed without these variables? I can't help thinking probably.

Luque returns to Spain and signs for Malaga

Madrid - Spanish Liga club Malaga Sunday signed Albert Luque from Ajax for an undisclosed sum, the club said. Luque, 30, was also wanted by Racing Santander, but has finally opted for newly-promoted Malaga, where he was on loan from Mallorca nine years ago.

He has failed to set the world alight since leaving Spain in 2005. Luque failed to hold down a regular place first at Newcastle United, then at Ajax.

The Catalan striker started his career at Mallorca in 1998, went on loan to Malaga in 1999, returned to Mallorca then joined Deportivo Coruna in 2002.

Luque was part of the Spain squad at the 2002 World Cup finals and also at Euro 2004.

In other Spanish transfer news, Brazilian midfielder Eduardo Costa has left Espanyol to join Italian club Lecce, and Mikel Balenziaga has joined Athletic Bilbao from second division Real Sociedad.

Bloody hell, and to think at one point he was getting games for the national team and was rated as a good player in Spain.

Happens in football.

Still hard to believe the falls from grace some of the other top players have seen. Rivaldo voted the world's best player at 27/28 years old, then within two to three seasons hes washed up and on the verge of signing for Spurs on a freebie.

Get the fack out! Rivaldo is class, been class all his life, best player after Zidane and Ronaldo that i've ever seen play live. He was immense for Olympiakos and AEK.
