Newcastle want England man to replace Enrique

Published 23:00 15/06/11 By Alan Nixon - EXCLUSIVE

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew wants to sign left-back Stephen Warnock from Aston Villa - to take over from Jose Enrique.

Pardew is trying to get a straight answer out of managerless Villa for the unsettled former England defender, who was left out in the cold under Gerard Houllier.

The Toon are willing to pay around £1million for Warnock - they are trying to keep the fee down to help them afford his wages, which are in the region of £45,000-a-week.

Pardew has made Warnock his first preference - despite being offered Paul Konchesky by Liverpool as part of a deal for Spanish star Enrique.

Kop boss Kenny Dalglish wants Enrique and is closing in on a deal, with the clubs haggling over valuations and possible exchanges.

Warnock is a more straightforward move and Newcastle hope to get the go-ahead once the Brummies sort out their managerial muddle.

No. Just no.

Carr won't allow this.

Actually, Stephen is a free agent isnt he?

Aren't these quotes from a local rag? Anyway, if Jose's serious about Chumps League that excludes the bin dippers, thank god. Might also mean he'll go abroad. Only the Arse haven't got a settled left-back and I've yet to see Jose linked with them.

If Jose had any doubts about our ambitions for next season surely all these signings should reassure him?

2 signings in 24 hours ambitions enough for you? Sign your contract man Jose lad

depends on how you view the signings:

experienced players who have been vital to the positive dressing room atmosphere being sold or made available for sale and replaced by cheaper players who are unproven in England and some also have dodgy injury records.

or

older, overpaid players whose best years are behind them being replaced by younger, hungry talent who are being paid sensible wages and have something to prove in a new league.

I'm obviously leaning towards the latter of bobbydazzla's two views, especially with our newer players looking like they've got a lot of pace about them whereas our older players, like Nolan, Smith and Barton, can be marked out of the game because they aren't pacy.

The Times reporting Jose's representatives have held talks with Arsenal. Clichy a target for Liverpool.

I'm currently marking Smith out of a game from my living room

Doesn't help signing people if we seemingly are after selling all of ours.

Is someone supplying a consistant flow of piss on your cornflakes?
