"..if Ashley hadn't been so stingy with his billions"

He's only a billionaire on paper.  Oh, so you want him to sell everything he owns so he can spend it all on Newcastle United? I should have realised. Maybe he isn't aware of your thinking? If you write him I'm sure he'll think it a good idea.

He's so poor he doesn't blink an eye losing a million or so in a casino. God forbid to put that sort of money towards securing crucial playing staff though.

Newcastle have slapped a £12million price tag on Jose Enrique after AC Milan re-iterated their desire to sign the player.

The 25-year-old has attracted attention from Liverpool, Manchester United and Aston Villa this season.

Enrique himself has hinted he could leave St James’ Park as he looks for a club that features in the Champions League.

Milan are keen to revamp their ageing squad and have not been scared off by Newcastle’s valuation of the player.

Alan Pardew would be reluctant to lose the services of the left-back but would let him leave if all the proceeds from the sale were added to the £35m received for  Andy Carroll to reinvest in the team

I'd be happy with that.

I'm sure I could be persuaded by a good salesman.

The quotes attributed to Jose are not accurate to be honest.

They are on Marca if anyone who speaks Spanish can translate?

The Daily Mail have loosely "translated" Joses words back into English. And being the Daily Mail, have changed the construction and context of the quotes to unsettle us.

Why should he put it towards the playing staff?

Serious question.

Because he's the owner of Newcastle United? If he'd rather piss away his considerable spare cash frivolously on some roulette table what does that say about his priorities?

My translation, he looks genuinely pissed at your ownership actually:

Do you think the exit of Andy Carroll will affect the team?

Yes, but it's not just Andy. He was a great striker for us, won all the high balls and was an important player for Newcastle. But other players left too and we have a short squad now. Some of my colleagues are debuting in the Premier League and we lack backups for certain positions. We all know we have a short squad and if we want to play a "top team"... if there are injuries we'll have problems. I have been promised that all the money of the Carroll sale will be reinvested. I hope it's that way...

Speaking of Liverpool, the reds are looking at you for their next campaign...

I have read in some English papers that teams like Liverpool, Manchester United, Aston Villa want me and that's flattering. They are big English teams. Currently I'm fine in Newcastle but I don't close my door to anything. I love the fans and I love the city. I have suffered with the team, with the relegation two years ago... and we have to be realistic. Newcastle hasn't been acting well, they made promises that haven't been fulfilled and I'm ambitious. I want to play in the Champions League, important competitions, and be able to play for the national team.

You have 16 months left in my contract, are you going to stay in Newcastle?

I always said that I feel fine in this team. It's true that I have been promised things that haven't been fulfilled. Like any other player, I want to win trophies and I don't want my aim to just be staying up. I want to be able to tell my sons that I played in the Champions League or for Spain. I'm ambitious and I won't close my door to anything

From what i've been told, AC bid 12m for Jose in January, the club said no and that they wouldn't sell for less than 25m. The guy's a good source, thought he was taking the piss at first but if the journos are picking up on murmurs like this now, it could quite possibly be true.

The idea that we wouldn't sell Enrique for less than £25m never mind £12m  when his contract is up after next season is so fucking ridiculous that you should feel ashamed to post this garbage.

cheers. as was thew case before the interview, if a man utd/chelsea comes in for him he's off but if we build he's not specifically looking to get away...or at least thats my reading of it.
