Did anyone really expect that we'd buy nobody this summer though? Some signings were a given, especially with the club selling Nolan and making it clear Barton wasn't really wanted anymore.

I'm hopeful the new players will do well, but the odds of any of them being top class difference makers that transform us into a Top 6 team are slim to be honest.

If it is a case that Jose is waiting to see our ambition then he's right to wait a while more IMO, though I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's already decided he's leaving.

You and Jose are well out of order, the club has shown massive ambition in bringing the 3 new players in and we've now got the same size squad that we finished last season with if you discount Ireland.  Oh, and we've spent something like £1 million but that isn't a measure of our ambition.

It's a tough one, torn between still loving the guy, or getting annoyed at him seemingly taking the club for a ride.

Another key player supposedly taking the club for a ride. Amazing isn't it how the stars are stars until the club forces them out or can't match their potential but the players are all greedy and taking the p*ss. Jose like Fabregas wants to move on to the next level and compete for medals. What's wrong with that?

It's the spiv who is taking the club for a cheap ride.

Every one would like to play at the highest level obviously but there is a way of going about it. Saying you will stay when we are safe, and then ambiguous claims of when we prove our ambition? He needs to show a bit more class and respect towards the fans and his employees, rather than not talking to us and simply waiting to see what's out there and if nothing he likes shows up grudgingly stay here. Like neesy said, put in a transfer request if you want to leave? This pissing about could, and probably will, prevent us getting in a decent replacement in time.

Well put. Jose's one of the last players I want to see leave but if he's going I wish we get get on with it so at least we could a replacement in.

Anyone reckon we should try for Clichy as part of the deal if Arsenal do come in for him? He hasn't progressed as hoped but he's still good enough for us, and, more importantly, is French.

Absolute liability.

Arsenal fans I know prefer Gibbs to Clichy now.

Same, but they also say he's always injured.

No. He's all pace and nothing else.

That's not strictly true, is it dear?

No you're right, he has both pace and terrible footballing ability.

I REALLY want him to stay but it does look as though he just wants off. SO lets ship him out but abroad not in the Prem no fkn way, rather let him stay another year than watch him stay in England.

Swap deal with a Spanish club, see who we can get for him.

How many people expected us to get three very good players in by mid June though?

No I don't agree, I think the better move would have been to keep Kuqi, Campbell and Nolan and not even bring in those three players.  We'd still have the same size squad, therefore we'd be no worse off obviously as squad size is all that matters. and we'd have saved £1m.  We could then leave our transfer moves to the right time, which is surely the last day of the transfer window.  That would put us in the enviable position of spending £30m on three desperation signings and we could all celebrate the sense of ambition that comes from spending lots of cash on overpriced flops :celb:

But ultimately do you not think that, if his departure is inevitable when his contract winds down, we should at least look to get a fee in for him? I'd rather he stayed too but you have to look at this with business eyes and future finances. It's better to recoup some money - especially when he'd command a decent transfer fee - than nothing. Although I recognise the counter-argument of counter-balancing any transfer fee by what he would contribute this year on the pitch. What annoys me is that, if he just showed a little bit of patience and stuck with us, he could contribute to us being a team who could actually be a match for Arsenal in a game and help us build something over a few years when we could almost be as good as them. For me, at least, that would be a much more rewarding thing to look back on, but I'm not him and nor am I on the fringes of the Spanish national team (their loss tbh...)

I love the bloke, but if he doesn't want to play for NUFC anymore, he can f*** clean off.

He's already been dropped from my FIFA 11 starting team, although Marveaux isn't pulling his weight at left back.  What is a boy to do?!

Spot on!

I don't get why some (the same usual suspect) insist that we must spend big to show ambition. Somehow getting international players who have played in the CL or players who have proven that they can do well in the Premiership (all by mid June too, way ahead of most other clubs) is not ambitious...weird logic

Not spending big is not unambitious, been completely reluctant to spend big is, however. I'm all for these bargain basement deals we are getting, but I hope we are not purposefully avoiding other players because we are s*** scared of spending over £5m.

So what, teams should only sign bosman transfers then?

I do think we've gotten better so far this summer, but if you're honestly happy with this as the bulk of our summer activity then I don't know what to tell you. It's a good start, but in terms of showing ambition to challenge for Europe then it's not enough yet, especially given what happened in January.

"espectacular españa!!!! que pocas ganas tengo de volver ..... las vacaciones es lo mejor que ahi"

"Spain spectacular!! I have no desire to come back ..... the holiday is the best there"

Think this could be misconstrued by some, surely same way nobody wants to come back from a Holiday considering he'll probably end up in England regardless...
