Racism in football

It sounds like Ramires told Mikel what he thought he'd heard, without checking it out with his team mates first. Mikel reacted by bursting into Clattenburg's room and confronting him. When the other Chelsea players don't back Ramires up, he then probably feels he still has to stick to his story, because otherwise he's dropped Mikel in it.

When Ramires does that, Chelsea feel they have no choice but to make a complaint, because of their obligations as an employer. All a sorry mess.

It's not that clear-cut for me. Chelsea made a complaint based on what they were told by a player, it was investigated and he was cleared. Doesn't seem all that bad... and I hate Chelsea as much as anyone.

It was Chelsea's level of investigation that is the issue... The media were informed by them within less than an hour of game ending and the subsequent statements taken by the FA whilst conducting their investigation of the Chelsea players seem to highlight Chelsea's lack of thouroughness when conducting their own...

Chelsea have been an absolute disgrace in this.

Footballers are as thick as an elephant sarny, yet Ramires and Mikel have gone off the charts for moronic arrogant stupidity.

Then Chelsea as a club wallow in the spiteful stupidity of their players.

Clattenburg should sue the pompous bastards. Club AND peabrained players.

Theres only one person who can sort this out, time for Peter Herbert to take his one man war against racism to Italy ........ and for the UK to close its borders the moment he steps on the plane.

Seriously, bad stuff but not surprising.

Herbert seems to have handled this issue terribly.

There was and is room for a discussion regarding the problematic issues with the word "Yid", but that discussion should be aimed at raising awareness of the history of the word and the fact that many jews still regard it as offensive.

The whole prohibition-agenda has just dictated the debate and helped trivialise things.

Norwich chief executive David McNally has confirmed the club will speak to police about alleged racist comments directed at defender Sebastien Bassong.

The Cameroon defender headed a late equaliser to earn the Canaries a 1-1 draw at Everton in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday and was believed to be the subject of racist abuse on Twitter later in the evening.

Norwich are aware of the comments and McNally tweeted on Sunday: "For those asking last night, we will be following up with the police regarding the racist comments reported after the game."

He later added: "Not relevant which team they support. Don't accept racism from anyone and so these comments will be reported to the police."

Ramires and Mikel. The brains trust? Pretty penny if the suing is handled right. ;)

Heard that Clatts-for-me-like would have to quit if he wanted to sue. Just from a journo so it doesn't really hold water tbh. I'd take them so far up the Gary they wouldn't have any stolen petrodollars left, personally, the cheating lying bastards, but justice really only works for the richest, doesn't it?

:okay:

So in the space of 48 hours there's been 2 incidents involving people from Wearside and Racism. Seems to be a report of racism every other week now. I don't think mediums like Twitter 'help', in that it attracts idiots who think they have a platform to say what they want. I'd like to think that it's being reported as it's being clamped down on more, rather than racism becoming more prevalent in the sport, but I'm not too sure.

He could retire and then come back in a couple of years. Defamation is big coin in Eng if you get the right lawyers. Possible bloodbath. ;)

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/8314045/John-Obi-Mikel-has-been-suspended-for-three-games-for-storming-referee-Mark-Clattenburg-s-dressing-room-after-Chelsea-s-defeat-to-Manchester-United

John Obi Mikel has been handed a three-match suspension and fined £60,000 for his actions following Chelsea's defeat to Manchester United.

The midfielder entered the referee's dressing room after the 28 October clash at Stamford Bridge to confront match official Mark Clattenburg.

Mikel had been informed by team-mates that Clattenburg had used inappropriate language of a racist nature towards him during the match, allegations which later proved to be false.

The Football Association acknowledged the circumstances that led to his actions and said the levels of the ban and fine had been imposed accordingly.

A statement on the FA website read: "The Regulatory Commission's independent chairman Christopher Quinlan QC emphasised that the Independent Regulatory Commission accepted, as did The FA, that at the time he threatened the referee the player genuinely believed that the referee had racially abused him.

"But for that factor the suspension would have been significantly longer."

Mikel accepted the FA's charge of "using threatening and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour in the official's changing room" and will now miss the Premier League games against Sunderland and Southampton as well as the Capital One cup quarter-final against Leeds.

Honestly how can you racially abuse someone for being black then praise one of your black players seconds later?

Mental isn't it. Tell you this story from 1986. I was at the Southend v Northampton game. Ended 4-4. I remember the Southend fans making monkey noises at a black Northampton player......then it continued as he passed to another black teammate. Southend won the ball in a tackle and ball ended up at the feet of Richard Cadette, a black Southend player, the Southend fans continued with the monkey chants for a few seconds then starting laughing.

Football has come a long way but nowhere near far enough.
