Brilliant post! I really don't understand their fascination with their 6 in a row trophy. Of course I don't begrudge them for enjoying winning against us, but they talk about it as if it was some golden era of mackem dominance. The wider context of those few seasons is that eventhough we were shit and on a death spiral towards eventual relegation, they were even worse for the majority of that time, they were a turd that wouldn't flush. Their MO was to get a new manager bounce in time for the derbies to beat a hapless Newcastle team and then scrape enough points against teams on the beach at the end of the season to stumble over the line. When they look back at that era, who are their heroes? Aside from Defoe, I can't imagine any of those players/managers from that period will be remembered fondly. The highlights of my Newcastle supporting life are winning the LC, qualifying for the CL and seeing us beat the likes of Barca, Juve & PSG, watching us go on deep runs in the Uefa Cup and seeing genuine world class talents wear our famous colours. Theirs will be what? A nonce scoring against us? A facist manager who they ended up hating sliding on his knees? All while they were scrapeing 17th in the league every season. Fine, let them have it. Also, I had no idea until very recently that we won 4 or 5 or 6 in a row against them or something like that since the turn of the century. I don't remember it ever being a big deal.

Also a much cheaper option with a bit more flair

I’d have Semenyo but he has the same problem Elanga, Pedro etc have, he’ll cost at least 50m, probably more like 60.
-
Not surprised the guy did the deal, it was either that or a restraining order

Rio is such a whopper man. And he's fucking everywhere.

It’s absolutely not. It’s a part of Tyneside and the people from South Shields can call themselves Geordies alongside Sandancers. In terms of split, I’ve always felt that it was 40-40, with 20% swinging to whoever is doing well at the time, however I’ve lived a large portion of my life in North Shields, so what do I know? As soon as you get to Boldon and Cleadon, and even in South Shields as soon as you hit parts of Sunderland Road, you’ll see more Sunderland fans, however it’s not like Newcastle fans are a rarity in any of those locactions.

We have a couple of people at work you live in Barnard Castle, and Newton Aycliffe. We have 2 main sites, one on the banks of the Tyne behind Royal Quays, and another on Sunderland docks. Both of them claim it’s quicker to get to the North Shields site than it is to the Sunderland site. A 3rd person who lives in Sacriston also claims it’s quicker to get to the North Shields site.

I'd say it's become a recurring theme since Saudi Arabia started investing in football to such an extent that it's happy to bail-out the global governing body to the tune of £1billion. Any pelters being directed at the Club World Cup are absolutely fair enough. It's the ultimate demonstration of football being used as a geopolitical tool to further the interests of those with existing wealth and power. I find it quite sad tbh because in theory I actually love the idea of a Club World Cup as a showcase event that's purely in the interests of football. It shouldn't be beyond the game to accommodate a version which is built on good intentions and is motivated by traditional sporting glory. It's just not possible with the way it's governed though, it would take too much collaboration between the various leaders. What we've got is a million miles from that; it's a Saudi-funded, Trump-endorsed Infantino vanity project, crammed into an already-overspilling calendar, where clubs are only competing due to financial fomo. Even for the smaller clubs, for whom the payday is incredible, the implications on their domestic leagues are incredibly uncertain.

I’ll start by saying I’m by no means unhappy with our owners. Couple of points though. Didn’t the club go after Emery first? Wasn’t it Amanda and Merdad rather than the Saudis who making those choices at the time? I'm certain they all knew the PSR restrictions at the time so knew in advance we couldn’t go all Galacticos. My personal concern is not the willingness of the Saudis to fund us, it’s their inability to do anything in a timely fashion. Or think ‘outside the box’.

I'd have Semenyo here. He's a slightly less refined Nico Williams.
-
Gattuso new Italy coach.

Doesn't seem entirely unfair.

I live in north West Durham and its 11 miles to St james park from where I live. It's 20 miles to the stadium of shite. Double the distance, but I should support my "local side" sunderland according to them. But then anyone from Northumberland who supports sunderland is fair game and a dedicated massive lads fan. Hilarious!

I've actually always been confused why South Shields gets lumped in as Sunderland territory. It's literally on the bank of the Tyne . Aye, Cleadon is close, but it's traditionally a 50/50 town, and always has been.
-
Soule is very good on FM therefore I am all in.
-
The hatred of Durham mags sums them up, it's about 15 mile to Sunderland from Durham and about 20 from Durham to Newcastle. Of course it's always going to be split so no idea why they think everyone born in Durham should be a die hard red and white .

how is judging a window after it's closed not the only sensible thing to do?

It's the best way to go.

The Athletic video on toon possible signings is really interesting. On youtube. He thinks Semenyo would be perfect for us. I wasn't keen before watching video but his arguments make sense.

Be plenty of them there tonight in disguise & back to posting drivel tomorrow about Fender & all things Newcastle which disgust them

If he wants the move so much maybe he should thank the chairman and pay the rest himself.
