It shouldnt really matter who we get. The manager and coaches should be able to motivate them properly and organise the team as such they will play produce what we need. Look at Chris Sutton at Villa. Unfortunatley we have a whole squad of under achievers so I wouldnt recommend going for potential as much as the finished article that can motivate himself or play off the crowd. We need someone that has Physical Presence in abundance, someone that can pull central defenders apart, win next to everything in the air. Kevin Davies, Viduka, even Hartson are the calibre of players we need to be looking at. Nugent would be an excellent buy but he would be a luxury buy compared to what we need right now. We have plenty of options Physical presence aside, Martins, Dyer, Duff are all viable 2nd strikers. But nothing without someone to lay the ball on. I have no idea how much money the Fat man wants to splash out but it wouldnt suprise me if we spent up to £10m on someone. I wouldnt be suprised to see us try and bid for Bent and Ashton once again, Klose would have been fantastic, but we wouldnt have been able to snare him in the summer let alone in our current position. Dont be suprised to see Freddy Kanoute's name popping up again.

we have looked alot better since Nigel Pearson has arrived. That said we still look paper thin at the back. Carr, Moore, Bramble and Babayaro do their utmost to fuck things up though. We would certainly have double the points if we could actually score goals though. Full backs have been a problem for years now, with all the focus being on the centre backs. If we had two decent full backs the CB's wouldnt be so stressed, pulled apart and out of position. Quite how they achieve this considering they add nothing to the attack for the most part im not sure. Two decent fullbacks would also support the midfield in turn helping our attacking play, over lapping feeding crosses for the attackers in the middle. We had one cross from a fullback today in Ramage. The two fullbacks attacking would also suit emre and parker who seem dead set on sitting deep for the majority of the game, leaving the two to sweep and back up whilst they are attacking. Two decent fullbacks would transform our team. But the bottom line is in the organisation and more importantly the motivation, smaller teams defend well with poorer players than we have, our players just arent being motivated properly.

Buying stikers wouldnt be so bad, if we could actually score goals we would have a canny few more points on the board than we do at the moment.
-
N'Zog and Parker would be good with dyer just infront, duff and Solano/milner either side.. He will definatley use butt and parker though, no doubt.
-
We have never had a problem buying decent players here. We have a problem getting them to play aswell as they are capable of. Its a house special making so called good defenders look shit.

Distin, Distin, Distin. The city fans are bricking it at the thought of him leaving, they would rather he left for nothing than leave halfway through the season. He keeps their defence together. He was a monster today and has been everytime i have seen him play over the past 3 years, he is big strong and better than our whole team combined in the air. Sure we could get alot better, but for the price and what he offers in experience i would take him in an instant and he is a leader. Something we sorely need. Something Upson certainly isnt. Id be ecstatic if we could get a decent LB/RB and Distin. Obviously we need a couple of decent strikers aswell though.

Manchester City V Newcastle United - Post Match Thoughts.
toontownman replied to BlufPurdi's topic in Football
Paper thin attack, paper thin defence. Midfield had a good second half, woefully un creative in the first though. Dont think Sibbers won one header today if we have a chance to get Distin i will carry him now, for the third year in a row he had our strikers in his pocket and was immense the full 90mins. Pray to God Carr is out indefinately complete waste of space. Why the hell did we play Ameobi who was not even close to being match fit. Joke. I would start with what we finished with, bar slotting taylor in at RB and putting Bramble back in the centre. We have absolutley NO physical presence in the team anywhere. Even the likes of Parker and Taylor we pushed around today. Harper - Real shame he will be dropped indefinatley now Given is back. 7 Carr - Not fit enough to lace Warren Bartons boots let alone wear a toon shirt and call himself a defender. unratable Taylor - Much more like the prospect we were looking at last season, good show from him if we had a RB and LB i would be tempted to put him with Ramage. 6 Moore - Sloppy gets done for pace alot needs replacing but is the lessar of our defensive evils. 5 Ramage - Gives his all, although nothing in attack bar one decent cross, along with Taylor the only defenders worthy to wear a toon shirt at the club. 6 Milner - takes players on well but cannot cross needed more support from RB and needs to stick wide. 5 Parker - Good battling and a good second half three way going on with Emre and Dyer but offers nothing coming forward. 6 Emre - Same as above but not quite as good, we cant have two people sitting back all the time. useless set pieces..AGAIN. 5 Duff - Not working for him yet, wasnt helped by the fact Ramage didnt support him and the rest of the midfield didnt want to attack. 4 Ameobi - Nice to give him one last match for this season, maybe he would have been motivated to score? Or maybe we could have started our fit strikers and not two identically useless players bringing nothing to our attack - 2 - DID NOTHING Sibbers - Effort good but not alot else, if Luque had his work rate we would be on to a winner, like wise if Sibbers had his skill maybe he would look like a striker. Sprang into life in the last few minutes 4.5 Subs: Dyer - Great to see him back , linked up so well but was a little too greedy when he could have played milner right in on goal, creates so much space and defenders are scared of his pace. feeling it by the end but lets pray he can stay fit. 7 N'Zog - was given more space than duff was, but i think the Irishman (had he still be on) would have used it better. Testing time for him. 5 Solano - much better game if there was a balance between his game and milners we would have a good right winger. 6 Roeder - Why Ameobi? Good subs and made at the right time, but the performance was all wrong again. PLease for the love of god just try luque, at worst he will give us the same as what Ameobi and Sibbers did today. 4 Nice Scarf wavings though. -
I doubt we would offload all of those players either, not immediatley anyways, the problem at the moment is motivating the players we have, as we have alot of talented players, they just arent gelling and performing.

(yet another positive thread to cheer everyones spirits on the eve of another week at work) ...which players will leave us should we get relegated and who would stay? Players immediately out: Martins/Owen/Emre/Moore/Parker/N'Zogbia/Milner/Duff/Given/Luque/Babayaro/Carr/Dyer .. although the latter three might not find any buyers. £50m if we are lucky. Stayers: Solano, Bernard, Ramage, Taylor, Harper, Sibbers, Ameobi, Butt, Pattison, Obrien, Bramble (no Choice), We would probably end up with a team looking like this: Harper Ramage Taylor Bramble Bernard Solano Butt Pattison O'Brien Sibbers Ameobi Plus a shed load of cash and a new manager, more than likely Shearer. Here's for praying its all a bad dream though.
-
Cant believe anyone is taking this remotely seriously. As if we would even consider a foreign coach. The shortlist reads Curbishley Anyone else we can get on the cheap thats british and will be controlled by the board.
-
Its clear he doesnt like him, and after watching MOTD last night (why I wanted to watch the shambles again i dont know) Shearer really doesnt like him either. His name wasnt even mentioned, with Shearer saying "Rossi is the only choice for Striker with Ameobi, Martins, Owen and Sibierksi injured, there is no one else that can play upfront!" Its obvious he still doesnt understand the work ethic needed, but he was more than trying yesterday. I think there is still a language barrier breakdown though, he clearly still doesnt understand quite what is needed of him, which is shocking with how long he has been here and the fact Solano is mates with him.
-
He could start winning, im fine with that. By the same token, Roeder must NOT ! He could start winning, i have no problem with that.
-
Wouldnt be at all suprised to see Houllier in as DOF or Roeder moved upstairs and Houllier in as Manager. Either would please me. Roeder has no decent experience or guidance behind him. Id just like to see Roeder moved upstairs the sooner the better, doing something right for a change though seems impossible, and i expect Roeder to be treated as calously as SBR. Like our Knight, Roeder has nothing but love for the club, city and fans and he has all the qualities to be a great DOF in my eyes. He just doesnt have the motivation to make our players play as well as they can. Right now the quality we have at our club wouldnt be a problem if everyone played to there potential.
-
He and Emre were the only guys fighting to change the game when they came on, unfortunatley the over eagerness of both gave away sloppy possesion at times. But IMO Luque HAS to start against Watford.
-
SWP's is a much better player than Lennon IMO. Tabloid garbage. SWP's has taken two steps backward since joining Chelsea which is a great shame. He has a much better eye for goal than Lennon and on form is just as penetrating when on form, Id also say he has a better cross. Lennon is certainly the player of the moment though. Get SWP's on form and there is a clear winner for me though.
-
If he ever got games. At his best he was better than Robinson, but whether he is still up to it remains to be seen, much like Harper maybe.
-
Milners biggest down point is his crossing, he is more than capable of running at defenders, he is a good dribbler, tracks back and his work rate is as good as anyone in the team including parker and his versatility is invaluable. But he is certainly capable of putting a good ball in as we saw thursday night and the majority of last season with Villa. If he can cross like that more consistently, which is only a matter of time given his age and work rate on and off the pitch we will have a fantastic player on our hands. If or when he goes to villa i think we will end up wishing we had kept him.
-
Same here, keeps saying i need a licence.. well says i have one, but wont work.
-
Fantastic performance again last night. Im going to be gutted in January when he sticks both fingers up and walks to Villa. Roeder should be doing his best to keep him here, doing more than Solano/Duff on both wings and tracks back alot better too.

Newcastle (from): Harper, Krul, Taylor, Moore, Bramble, Carr, Bernard, Ramage, Parker, Solano, Milner, Emre, N'Zogbia, Duff, Pattison, Rossi, Sibierski, Luque, Carroll Harper Taylor Moore Bramble Ramage Milner Parker N'Zogbia Duff Rossi Luque Bench: Pav, Solano, Sibbers, Emre, Carr, Pattison Luque and Rossi up front has to be. Although it wouldnt suprise me to see Sibbers instead of one or the other.
-
If we had four defenders at the standard that our four goalkeepers are at we would be fantastic! Props to Genoe and Sadler, good to see at least some of our coaches are worth the money they earn. Whilst on the subject it appears Nigel Pearson might be doing the same, defence looked as solid as they have been all season at least. And Despite Bresslaw, Armstrong, Carty, Gay looking Coltrane, Gielgood and Guy T ' Emmerdale, Krull loses out to Kruhl tonight!
-
Harper Taylor Moore Ramage Bernard Milner Emre Butt N'Zogbia Sibierski Luque Bench: Krul/Bramble/Huntingdon/OB/Pattison/Solano/Carroll/Troisi My only reservations are that Sibbers and Luque will play too similar jobs with neither being out and out strikers. I dont think he will risk Bernard either.
-
To be fair do you really think Palermo wouldnt have realised we have no options other than to play Luque with EVERY other striker Injured or cup tied? Hardly brain science we were going to play him, although that said a few people wouldnt have been suprised if he didnt play luque. Its hardly giving away how we are playing, and even the way Luque is going to be asked to play. Teepee has it sussed anyway. If Luque plays superbly wins the match and scores a hatrick he will still be benched at the weekend.
-
We can do alot better than all of those players. But id be far from upset if we managed to sign them. Id be happy with Nugent, although is he that much better than Chopra?? Davies wont particularly help our goalscoring problems, but he is certainly the type of player we need, I would rather have Viduka mind. Neill would be acceptable, and can gel well with Moore and even give a bit more cover at the back. Bridge goes without saying. Upson just isnt the leader we need, he is a good player though if he has his injury problems behind him, but we need a leader of men and someone that will organise the back, would improve our backline but wouldnt run it. 3 new defenders and 2 new strikers is certainly what we need come january though. With Luque as good as gone, Rossi going and more than likely Nicky Butt out the door, i think we will generate the funds to get what we need.

Would you believe the bastard machine broke down, And Michael was using the spare.
