I don’t mean just that interview - I mean the whole transfer window. I don’t think Howe or the club have been up front with fans. I just don’t accept that there’s only a small pool of players that improve our team. His hissy fit about Mitchell set a needlessly awkward tone and came across as an unwelcome power play to me. As I said earlier, I’ve no idea what’s gone on, but in my opinion (and it’s only an opinion) Howe hasn’t helped himself this window.

I don’t think it’s pandering, I just would rather the club came out and said why they haven’t signed anyone as opposed to weird noises about small pools (which are factually inaccurate - there are so many players who’d improve us) and ensuring things fit for him. I don’t know and won’t know what the truth is but on balance I’m not sure Howe’s played a blinder with owners, squad or fans.

I read it as a pretty obvious bit of gaslighting tbh. Fans are rightly fucked off and, rightly or wrongly, he’s had some part in the problems and the badly managed messaging around expectations. We’ve been very united behind him and his team for his entire tenure, including a poor effort at times last year. The club hasn’t delivered on even the most basic of expectations (improve the squad), and fans are understandably miffed and confused. He’d do better to just say “we had a bad summer and made some mistakes”.

Seems pointless to me. Failed his first big test pretty badly.

I have to be honest, I think the club has gaslit fans a bit this summer. Really poor show from all involved.

While a lot of the negativity is over the top, I don't think it's unreasonable to conclude that something isn't quite right between the different departments of the club. Whoever is at fault sucks and has needlessly made our campaign a lot harder.

You are, of course, right - it is everybody else other than you.
-
If that's true then yeh, it's a massive discredit to the manager.
-
Not sure I agree. If what he's good at is unearthing talent for purchase, did he not come to the role with an active contacts book and suggested talent that he / his people had scouted? I would have thought that was part of the driving force in him getting the role; maybe it was in fact his willingness to deal with the fallout of not buying anyone. Either which way, he's a day and a half away from failing his first big test.
-
Total and utter silence. He has a day and half to do something, else he's not going to be popular for at least 6 months. Makes little sense to me why he'd take the appointment if unable / not allowed to do what he's supposedly good at (of which I've seen no evidence). Similar foreboding about him now as I have with Eales.

You'd really hate to think that we were never planning to spend much all along, but something somewhere doesn't add up. Monumental risk taking by the club to proceed standing pat.
-
No, it must have eluded me there. Could you explain it again?
-
Is it a different day for other clubs then?

Why stop there? Kill the bastard

Palace progressing 2 signings today might suggest it’s happening, but pure wishful conjecture.

Maybe we don’t want to start any contracts until sept 1 to save money, he clutched at the straw

The most abysmal please help us klaxon

Proven commodity in the league we play in; already fluent in English to understands our complex playbook; perhaps they think he's a better player.

Ah, some more assumptions belched out as facts. Glorious

Mitchell’s and Eddie’s sleeves are way too far down the forearm. Worrying
