How to "fix" domestic cups
Colos Short and Curlies replied to Geordie_once_removed's topic in Football
Clubs have to submit cup squads at the beginning of the season, limit the number of 'senior' players. Idea would be to reduce the playing burden on players, stop clubs playing fringe players to the semi/final then bringing in the big guns (i.e. reward those who got you there) and provide opportunities to younger players. All TV rights to be on free to air channels -
Nah, Murphy on the bench, Willock on the right and Big Joe back in. Otherwise yeah, same team no doubt
-
That last paragraph is telling - the comment on needing your best players available to deliver the style of football he wants. Basically it's a style for the first 11 and not for the squad

Wasn't it Burns man that he was chasing? Got too tight to his man and lost the challenge but Burn had let his man go and Sven was trying to catch him, only saved by Thiaws challenge
-
13th, a cup final and a great Champions League night after being forced to sell Ferdinand and then losing the best striker in the world. And yes he was beyond shite I totally agree, I'm being deliberately provocative as I know it will get people wound up and I'm bored đŸ˜‚

He's got the photos of Eddie and JT

Had a chuckle when he just grabbed the ball under that challenge from Gabriel as if he knew that if he didn't there was no way he was getting the foul

Both replacements came mid season and in Robson's case in particular should have happend in the summer. Even with KK offering to resign summer of 96 feeling burned with hindsight that was the time. Bit even with KD coming in we finished second, had that night Vs Barcelona and a cup final whilst losing Shearer for lost of the season. If we had won the FA cup would there have been a clamour for him to stay on? I doubt it, it was clear that we had hit the end of the road
-
Who you getting rid of? Surely any player who was her last season has to stay as you know they won us a cup and got champions League. So we're just going to sell anyone we bought last summer?
-
Sorry but that was cowardly. We know they are fragile and nervous and we sit off and play slow Infront of them.

LinkedIn Liam changes status to 'Open to Work's surely

West Ham win and Spurs pretty much done for? Would need to beat Leeds and Everton at home plus one of Wolves, Chelsea, Villa away you feel
-
Have we had a better league performance this season - as a team - than Everton away? That should have been the blueprint
-
It doesn't really matter now if he should or shouldn't have had the influence. He did and we are now in a place where putting a structure over him is saying that the club don't believe that he should have as much say in how we move forward. Right or wrong that's the position and human nature makes it nigh on impossible to not just accept that bit to rise and thrive under who is brought in. As I say it's not a case of was the past set up right, or even that Howe wanted it, it's whether making the change now will allow Howe to be the best that he can And I'll stick my neck out and say it won't

Forget any analysis on who wasn't there last summer, we've got a guy in charge who has got a number of reasons been in a position of power and influence on recruitment alongside the management of the squad. And things have gone backwards in the last 12 months. I don't see anyone reacting well to them having a structure put around them to reduce their sphere of influence and then turning around the tanker. It just doesn't happen often in any walk of life.

Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

What I was trying to say . First couple of games on the right were slow but then he kicked on nicely. The point was each time Barnes found some form in a position he was moved to fit in AG somewhere -

The worst bit of managing this (for me) was that Barnes was in a groove on the left then shunted to the right to allow AG to come in and then his output slowed. Then Barnes started to look dangerous on the right and delivering output so Howe shoves him back left to put AG up front. Then AG starts looking dangerous up top and he decides to drop Barnes to move AG back left and bring Osula in -
Yea sort your attitude out man

How many managers build more than one team at a club? Plenty can come in and over a couple of seasons build a strong team but once that team ages or is disbanded the record for building a second or third team is pretty poor. Ferguson, Wenger, Pep have done it. Not sure you would say Jose was great at it, he usually left before he had to!

Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)
Colos Short and Curlies replied to Miggys First Goal's topic in Football
Poor Hugo can't even do that at the moment -
Arsenal fan at work is convinced that final Day Arsenal lose the league and Spurs stay up. Told him he's being optimistic thinking Arsenal will still be in the race last game

Isn't Iraola in the running for the Bilbao job?

It's possible that this summer will see changes at City Arsenal (these 2 if City win the league) Chelsea Villa ManU Liverpool Bournemouth Palace And then further afield PSG Madrid That competition is strong for managers, but even worse will be looking for a new manager 6 weeks into next season. So we need either a big show of backing, triple locking down on Howe Ball or he needs to unveil his statue and leave at full time on the last game of the season
-
Lets not forget that Howe was an underwhelming choice as well, yes we had some fans who were 100% behind him when it was a race between him and Emery, but most wanted Emery first.
