Newcastle United V Plymouth Argyle Pre-Match Thread - 19/09/09- 3pm KO

Radio Newcastle think it might be Lovenkrands on the left, Nolan up top with Carroll, which is less good. We'll see if that's right though. -

I wish he could only play 1 game a week, and I mean as a rule, not physically.

Exactly, there was a time where home games against Pompey, Hull, Wigan, Stoke and West Ham was basically a guaranteed 15 points...last season it was worth 4 points. It'll take even longer for me to feel that way about away games, I know we should win but we've looked fairly toothless the last few games and our luck may well run out eventually.

http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/Carroll-fit-for-Blackpool-clash.5648383.jp Carroll back in the squad, would be amazed if he starts, more than likely a sub.

He's probably got a knock, but he's an "attacking midfielder" and Donalson is a striker turned midfielder. We have no strikers so Donaldson is probably there as a desperate striking option.

Good effort Nixon but you've put Newcastle as the home team

Why's Shearer got a name tag on?

To be fair I kinda agree with this, he did stand around a fair bit when he came on. Benefit of the doubt though, it must be hard at 17 making your debut in front of 38,000 people, especially when another youngster has just put in a really good shift like that. I really do hope the hype around him is justified. He was getting yelled at in Leazes corner to bother his arse to close down their keeper, but as said if he's a typical number 10 then he won't be doing that kind of thing very often I'd imagine. He's going to be different to all the other youth we've had breaking into the first team - they usually make an impression with their commitment due to their relaitve lack of talent (let's be honest, we haven't exactly been blessed with talent coming through) but the Championship is going to be physical and he's not a small lad. If he just does simple things like closing down clearances I'm sure the rest of his game won't be hindered.

Well that was half of my argument, Maradona the cheating cunt (against Bobby no less) However the football fan in me would like to see the best players in the tournament, guess you can't have it both ways.

GK - James, Green, Foster FB - Johnson, Richards, A Cole, Baines CB - Ferdinand, Terry, Upson, Lescott Midfield - Gerrard, Lampard, Walcott, Lennon, Barry, J Cole, SWP, Beckham CF - Rooney, Heskey, Defoe, Crouch Baines instead of Bridge, don't think Bridge has been very good for a while now. Wouldn't be surprised if Wes Brown went instead of Richards, more experienced and I think Capello likes him as he's in the squad despite not playing all that much recently. Likewise, I don't think Capello rates Ashley Young, he's barely given him a sniff. Downing has got every chance of going as he is actually left footed, which is something missed from my midfield Barry aside. J Cole needs to prove his fitness once he gets back into the Chelsea team, he's had a serious injury so he may end up missing out. Milner also seems to have taken Capello's eye so he'll probably be in there instead of SWP. That starting 11 tonight will all go plus Rio and James (if all fit anyway) and as that's the system Capello likes you've got to assume we'll go with that formation and personnel, with Rio in for Upson and maybe James in for Green.

Ok captain pedantic, a team containing some of the best players. Do you not class Argentina as one of the best International teams? Are you saying you wouldn't be surprised if they didn't qualify? Actually don't answer that, you probably think it's Paraguay's tournament to lose.

It was against Croatia, whiping boys indeed. Maradona will NEVER get them playing like that, however. Why he is still adored like a demi-god is something I will never understand (for not using less gentle words) EDIT: It was against Serbia, I'm probably going to get hunted by death by some former Yugoslav now. The 24 pass goal? Was that not Serbia? You've quoted him saying it was against Serbia (& Montenegro, no less) I'm in 2 minds about Argentina. On the one hand, Maradona is a cheating cunt, on the other hand, I like the World Cup to have the best teams in it. Think it'd be a shame if Messi/Aguero etc weren't there.
