Can't help that finishing 17th will set us back a bit (obviously not as bad as relegation) and we could potentially lose players, rather than add to it. If we finish mid-table, we can hold onto said players and build on it on the back of 'making progress'.

He was starting to get noticed for his performances and not lashing out no matter what the situation. Ultimately, if he hadn't have lashed out, I would guess the tactic would be stopped by opposing teams as managers would figure he's past that and won't respond. It's now been proven no matter how much of a 'reformed' man he becomes, he's still going to have moments. So, rightly or wrongly, he'll be targeted. Don't feel sorry for him in the slightest tbh, he was almost out of the doghouse. The same commentators that have ripped him for years were shouting about a potential England call up ffs.

I don't think there's any set plan tbh. If it's realised we need improvement, Ashley will put the money in (within reason). If it's felt we can survive on what we have, he won't. The only issue is whether he recognises the need for said investment. That's what I feel has been his bad track record, not the fact that he just won't give us money 'cause he's a tightarse git. I don't think it's to do with just balancing the books as such when it comes to signings, I just think he's been that stupid in the past that he genuinely thought what he'd invested would be enough to see us through.

What I've never understood about Man Utd and Arsenal's goalkeeping problems, is the fact that so many mid-table teams have been able to keep hold of great, solid 'keepers over the years. Given, Schwarzer, Friedel, Van der Sar, before finally moving to Man Utd, are the ones that immediately spring to mind. For all the other players the top 4 have stolen from the mid-table clubs, surely they could've nabbed a few strong 'keepers that were a long-term prospect along the way?
