Season was over after the Derby home defeat. I think I said that on here right after that game. Killed the entire year. We could’ve easily recovered from the Barca battering if we’d swatted them tramps back into their boxes and recovered our momentum. We didn’t, all hope died that day and everyone checked out if we’re honest. Fans. Players. Coaches. Done. I think Howe can count himself lucky to be in the job after last summers transfer business and the subsequent performance this year. I hope the faith shown in him is warranted and he can fix the major issues in this squad. He’ll almost certainly be uncomfortable with the sheer volume of trading necessary but he’ll need to be prepared to oversee huge surgery this summer or he’ll be gone by November and he’ll be able to have no complaints.

Really pleased the 6 points they got from us rolling over in the two derbies have made the difference to their European charge. I mean Osula is the only one that looks semi reliant at this stage. So he has to stay. Wissa would be the obvious choice to ship and has been all season. Turkey or KSA after a decent world cup with a bit of luck.

Sensible move for one last year given the sheer volume of deals needed elsewhere in the squad. No Europe, one game per week means we’ll only see him for cup games in all likelihood anyway.

Wissa looks like an over 40’s player. Osula still feels like a bit of a wildcard option imho even though he’s been so much better over the last month. I think we’ve established that Woltemade cannot play as the top man in the PL and needs to play off someone. If that’s the case then it leaves Wissa and Osula alone who can play as the final man. That feels inherently risky to me. In terms of depth, reliability and quality. Add to that Wissa’s very slow recovery from a very serious injury, being one year older and not really getting a break due to the World Cup then I’d be inclined to say it would be fucking mental if they were the three attacking options we go with. Particularly with the wide attacking options falling short and requiring some surgery too. High risk indeed.

He's not a leader which was the point I was making. I’ve said from day 1 I thought he’d be a good buy and maintain that but he’s not a strong character at all.

I honestly do not see what they saw in Elanga. He's fucking woeful on every technical metric. ‘Proven’ or not, he was just a rank bad pick. He has ZERO redeemable features. Wissa will always be judged against the fee paid. We paid for certainty and he’d have had to have massively delivered it to ever get close to justifying the fee paid. He didn’t and everyone involved now looks stupid. Looking at the prices paid and contract lengths signed, that pair have cost us £20m for this season alone. TWENTY million quid and they have returned fuck all. They’ll both deliver more next year but not through their quality just more a case of Howe having to play them and a stopped clock being right twice per day.

Given the volume of trading we’ll have to do, it’s imperative we complete as much of it as early as possible imho. Thats issue number one, issue number two is to sign some players with character. We’ve lost so many big characters over the last 12 months if we include those departing this summer, we simply cannot rely on ‘technically sound and a nice lad’ signings. Some of the incomings this summer need a set a bollocks as every one of last summers signings are soft cocks. Not one leader amongst them. This was undoubtedly a factor in us losing both derbies imho. For that reason, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see current club captains targeted for at least a couple of the incomers….

Massive difference in those players to Guehi. 24 year old PL Captain at Palace, England international wanted by last years champions and Man City. Wissa and Elanga don’t exist in the same conversation as Guehi.

Catterson going to the FA or PL isn’t he? Him and Howe had a big fall out a couple of years ago about Botmans injury diagnosis. Catterson was adamant Botman needed further investigation and treatment whilst Howe sought the opinion of a second club employed medical professional, effectively over ruling the club Doc Catterson. Howe went with the alternative opinion and selected Botman to play. It was later confirmed that Catterson was correct, Botmans injury was made worse by playing on it and the specialist subsequently got the bullet. Took a long time for Catterson and Howe to mend their relationship…….
