Cup games against lower tier teams should be used to play players like Aarons, De Jong, Lascelles, Darlow and Tiote when they don't hold a starting position in the league games. If we can't beat Northampton with a team including those players in addition to others whom have played regularly from start this season, then we don't deserve to be in the cup anyway. I wouldn't critisise anyone for not taking the cup seriously if we played those players. If we lose, the critisim will rather be aimed towards other things such as tactics and motivation from management and commitment from players.

Any chance of Walcott starting or playing for Arsenal soon...? Always have him in my team, and never starts playing before I take him out.

Overall I am left with a positive feeling after the match. Only thing that irked me, which I believe could have been the difference between the end result and a 2-1 victory, is the substitutions. Gini was moved further back in the midfield later in a game during pre season, which McClaren himself commented on after the game, so I don't understand why we didn't bring on Aarons or Perez earlier for Colback or Obertan to get some more pressure on Southampton higher up the pitch when we were starting to be forced back to our own half. That stint where Southampton equalized reeked of old Pardew mentality. Hopefully that was the case, amd it will wear off soon.

Good. A full season in league 1 can only do him good...provided that they use him regularly. I don´t have any faith in the 1-3 month loans we´ve been doing with our promising youngsters the last few years.

20 goals in 37 matches last season. Coming to a tougher league now, in a worse team with less support, I'd say realistic would be 10-12 goals assuming that he evolves as a player this year. If we get a good winger in before the season starts, I would say 15 goals would be realistic.

Guess I'm mistaken there, though my point about them having no incentive to improve still stands. They're still getting a hefty wage and Krul is still the backup keeper at his national team So obviously an incentive is to become Dutch no.1? You could say that, but then it depends on the player and what's more important to him. Krul's delivered some good performances before, so if he's not doing it now, the manager should come under the scanner Also got new competition from Ken Darlow now.

If we sign those four I'd say half the forum would drink their own p*ss. I'd be content and would probably watch games, because as of right now i don't plan to. It´s really weird. I almost would drink my own piss if we got those four. Yet, I would not be more than content as well.

One of my biggest wishes (that are somewhat realistic) for Newcastle United this season is that Aarons has an injury free season and is given a lot of chances to play.

Don´t see the need for a striker or two. Maybe Austin because he has a cool name and offers something different, but get someone to create for Cisse and Perez and we will get goals. Spend some on defenders instead.
