Think I said it in the planning for the championship-thread, but if we manage to, we should sell everyone in the first team picture possible bar Lascelles, Mbemba, Perez and Mitrovic and fight tooth and nail to keep Benitez, give him full control of team and transfers in order to try and build a better culture at the club.

If this had been bumped the day before Rafa signed it would in some weird way be fun to make a semi-realistic championship squad combined with some hope to see how we could "reset" and start over again like last time. Now though I just desperately hope we stay up in order to keep Rafa. If we go down, I hope we manage to keep Mitrovic, Perez, Aarons, Mbemba, Lascelles, Armstrong and Mbabu. Those are the players I see with a potential to be better than what we can attract even when being in the premier league, and a full season in the championship might actually do more good than harm for their development. All the others are replaceable and not likely to get any better than they are today.

It sucks to lose, but looking at the results (and not the performance) and fixtures in February. Are anyone surprised or of the opinion that we should have expected something better? 3 points in february looks about right to me, and doesn't really sway my expectations for the worse. fwiw, I do think we are in real danger of going down and we need a reaction from staff and players after the City game, especially at the "winnable" away games. If they can improve the away form against the lower half teams (getting more than 2 points from the remaining away games), I do not think we will be relegated. This wasn't meant to be some "we're going to be fine" post. Just find that there are a lot of OTT people on here after a bad game against Chelsea whom regardless of league position, are lightyears ahead of us in terms of quality both on and off the pitch. Earlier he was injured, came back and looked like an improvement on what we had, played a few games and turned to shit, got injured and everyone was happy. I can't remember the last game he played for us, so not sure if this is the case now.

Red card was pure frustration. Played excellently imo before that. Took charge of the game and tried to push us forward. Showed more captain material than Colo did.

My impression of the match was that Everton pressed well and in numbers better than we were able to make ourselves availble...im not saying Shelvey didn't play good, but a lot of times he didn't really have any options. Also, only his third match for us, in a struggling side, with a sub-par manager.

I think we could have managed a draw if Mitrovic started instead of Ayoze. Between the 60 minute mark and the first penalty they didn´t play that bad imo, and were taking the game to Everton. However, this was never going to work with Ayoze on his own up top.
