Burnley vs. Newcastle United: 22/05/22 @ 4pm (No UK TV)

We would have been down ages ago. -
For me the signing is just such a good sign of what’s to come. They didn’t just go and get a midfielder to defend and make us harder to play against. Or decide to get one to help us keep the ball. They went and got a guy with great defensive and ball retention skills who also progresses the ball well and has a bit of steel about him. Not to mention a great character. No doubt there’s some luck involved in every signing, but it shows they have an excellent appreciation of that the team needs and the kind of players who are likely to succeed here.

He’s miles better than Cabaye.

Putting the victory photo on the main banner was genius. -
TBF I felt like he was including himself in the criticism too. He does tend towards this of course, and interviewers probably know he’s the one to go to in situations like this.

Hard to put into words how good the atmosphere was. Chants at half time for the new U9 players FFS. -
I cried at his interview Not just because of Howe of course, more because of what this moment means for the club after so much shit for so long. Just absolutely gets it, says the right thing and shows great insight every time - both into tactical aspects of the game and also the special nature of Newcastle. It’s really difficult to talk about Newcastle fans, the mythical connection between club and city, without sounding a bit silly or cheesy. But he gets it absolutely spot on. And he’s never going to let the players drop their effort for a day. On the flip side, it’s not just Roy Keane style macho bollocks, it’s going to be accompanied with incredible detail in preparation and a lot of room for players to express themselves. Bodes very well for the future.

I’m pretty sure he’ll be kept on, unless he really asks for a move. Probably keep mainly the same defence and add one mega CB to the first team. Can’t always account for our ambition now though, we could well sign two people.
-
I would keep, I really like him. There’s not many people who can press like that for a whole game and still attack. I’m not saying he should start every game in attack next year, but I’d definitely keep him around.

Great performance tonight, best he’s played for a long time. If he can appreciate why it was so good, and repeat it, he’s into a winner. As people have said, Wilson being on is a massive help to him. -

Honestly can’t believe how good it was. Felt like going into a completely new stadium. Incredible work. -
He was decent overall, still has a few of those moments where he’s not sharp or athletic enough to adjust and react. But I suppose all CMs do, it’s a hard position.
-
I don’t necessarily mind it, I just didn’t know why it was happening.

Did something prompt this endless stream of Office references in every thread?
-
Maybe a couple of minutes at the end. Are they both confirmed to be leaving though?

The next challenge is to keep the atmosphere going at a high level when the game starts. So the flags aren’t the high point and then people calm down. Not that it’s anything to do with Wor Flags, but I wonder if there’s any way to build on it during the match. Obviously when the team is better it won’t really be difficult to get everyone off their seats anyway. -
I thought it was more that they’d just picked up a couple of wins. They still look all over the shop to me. I’m very biased though because I hate Lampard.
-
Mad spin from some pundit on 5 Live. Everton shown much more than before Lampard arrived, he’s really got them going, enough positives to show they’ll win another game. Couldn’t quite believe my ears.
-
I don’t mind Burnley either, interesting to have a club with such a strong identity. Guess their identity might change now they got rid of Dyche.
-
Very unlucky for the young CB.
-
Its a good performance.
-
Yeah, they’re absolutely right for the most part Not a done deal though, tough away game for them and we might want to go out on a high. Doesn’t matter either way, but looking forward to it.
