  1. If we can just scrape a couple of draws it could make a massive difference. Would leave Wigan needing 2 wins and a draw minimum from 4 games. They've got to go to arsenal and one of their games is against a side currently worse off than us. Reach out for those straws.
  2. I've tried to stay positive, but after todays shambles i'm starting to be swayed by the "we're relying on other teams" argument. Hard to find any hope after that. Having said that, next week we start again v West ham and you never know. Can only hope they're shamed into producing a performance. Doubt they'll lose any sleep over today if I'm honest though.
  3. Anniversary of David Kelly's winner v Portsmouth (1992) today. Got to be one of, if not the most enjoyable toon goals in my time. So important in a bid to avoid dropping into the 3rd tier for the 1st time ever. I've just watched it again via the link to "Keegans Kingdom" on nufc.com. Fantastic. Still felt tense watching it now, despite knowing the outcome.

Being NETD is success in their eyes. The be all and end all. Losing that self invented title, one that only exists when it suits them, would hurt them more than relegation. That's how small time they are.
  5. I don't think we've been particularly lucky. Not with injurys. Had decisions 'even themselves out' to use that old cliche. Got lucky at reading, not so at Wigan etc, but I don't think we've had more luck than others.
  6. Sunderland got rid of the negativity within the club when they sacked the manager, we haven't done that. I agree, but although it seems to have paid off for them, it was a massive gamble. Regardless of what we think of pardew, I personally wouldn't want us to change managers at such a late stage. As Shearer proved, a new boss, late on doesn't always work.
  7. Come on man, we are 6 points above (7 with goal difference) with 4 games to play. Wigan have just been beaten off west ham away and still have Spurs, Arsenal and Villa to play. They have a game in hand we are not looking like we'll pick up any points with the way we're playing. Like I said it's all reliant on them not being good enough as we're clearly incapable of helping ourselves. But we are picking up points. We're just inconsistent. As for the ' can't see where our next points are coming from' theory, surely the mackems and stoke thought the same until the last 2 weekends, after being on terrible runs. Still feel constantly nervous thinking about how things will pan out though. Maybe i'm just trying to convince myself.

Looks like their massive managerial gamble is paying off, but is that really success? Narrowly avoiding the drop and winning the derby? Not really. It's not as bad as it might have been, that's all. Surely they expected more at the start of the season. We did obviously, but we're not celebrating as if we've turned into some footballing superpower like they are.
  9. I agree. We're in danger, but I think because of Sundays result, some are under the false opinion that our form is worse than that of our rivals.
  10. We could say the same about us v West Brom. Are they already on holiday? Will QPR be on holiday by the time we go there? I'm pretty sure they'll be down by then. West Ham will probably be safe by the time we go there. While we're understandably worried, i think a lot of opinion is based on how people feel after the derby debacle. We shouldn't be any more pessimistic than the likes of Stoke. Having said that, i'll still be mightily relieved to survive.

The boro game was his 6th of 8 - a bit different. Can't remember exactly, but after that Boro game we were on a high and many people thought we'd be ok. We all know the grim outcome. Hopefully the mackems will meet a similar fate.
  12. Just hope we can limp to safety then resign this horror season to history. One win or a few scabby draws will do. Get it done Newcastle and let us relax.

I think they'll stay up, but hopefully the same thing will happen to them that happened to us when Shearer had his similar spell in charge. Ironically I think his 1st game in charge was v Chelsea too. We beat Boro soon after then I think we only got 1 more point from our other games.
  14. Derby games, even though we win most of them. I'd rather just not play the mackems. Too much stress involved.
  15. i knew i was too confident going in to this, and should know better than to expect anything from this crazy club of ours. I just keep telling myself that for every derby defeat there'll be 2/3 wins. When i got home i found a copy of a DVD, "Newcastle v sunderland the rivalrys" and there's about 8 fairly recent derby wins listed on the back. I think i've only experienced a similliar amount of defeats in the 37 years i've been watching Newcastle. Can't grumble too much. Pathetic non performance yesterday though.
  16. i've taken my daughters in there on a non match day afternnon with no problems. Cheers. I see there's food on til 8 and they do kids meals, so we should be fine.

On the face of it, it should be as easy as it gets against these. Key players missing for them, those that are left are average at best. They've won 3 pts out of 9 games while we've won 5 games out of 9 in the league. Having said that, i still wouldn't put money on an NUFC win because anything can happen in a derby, and anything can happen at this club. They've made me pessimistic over the years, but i'm the most confident i've been for many a derby too.
  18. Anyone know if you can take kids, well not so much of a kid but a youngish looking, slightly u18, in Shearers on a non match day? Is there a kicking out time for them if so?
  19. Won 2-0. Think it was Michael Richardson with the 2nd. Dummet was watching. Could do with him back after Santons injury.
  20. I'm nervous and god knows how i'll be next Sunday if we don't win today, but we're just one of a large group of troubled teams. I was looking at the other results of the teams around us, yes I was that worried, and stoke have won about 5 points from 15 games, the mackems about 3pts from 8 games. We had an illegal winning goal against us at Wigan and realistically didn't expect anything v city. Before that we were ok. Need to get back on track today though.

So safc have appointed Di Canio and an Italian back room team? The lengths that club will go to just to say they've got a mackem who has possibly been to Milan.

They just never learn do they? With their'bring on the mags' style comments before every derby. Who's to say how the game will turn out, but they sure do set themselves up for a big fall.

I think he'll give them the short term lift they need to stay up unfortunately. Beyond that I think he'll chuck it when he can't get his own way.
  24. I quite enjoy u18 games, but it always seems windswept at Benton, even near summer, at the end or beginning of a season. We had a decent side last season and won our league. You see some decent games though. Not bad when there's no 1st team game and the weather's bearable.
