  1. I think it would go something like this. Solano '13 (free kick) Albert 18 (header) Ferdinand '36 Shearer (P) '41 HT Robert '67 (25 yarder) Ferdinand '84 Bellamy sent off '86 Speed '90 (corner, last minute header) 4-3 Robson Both managers hug at full time on the pitch I think that the Premier League improved vastly from 1995 to 2003 (and even more to now) in terms of calibre, hence the team that was good enough to finish 4th in 2003 probably would have won it in 1995. Whereas the '95 team, awesome as it was at the time, probably wouldn't have been 12 points clear in 2003. This is based on absolutely no substance whatsoever! And is probably the most pointless post ever.
  2. It's criminal what we've done to this guy. It really is. I really hope he digs his heels in and sticks his ground, and Pardew is sacked after 4-5 games.
  3. Ironically, the only one that is a true 'upgrade' on the previous incumbents is actually Colback, who is better than Gosling. Cabaye > De Jong HBA > Cabella Debuchy > Janmaat Remy >>>>> Riviere Based on bias. No not bias: Debuchy, stats wise and otherwise has been seen as one of the top-performing right backs in Europe for the past few seasons. France's undisputed number 1, etc etc. Janmaat is younger yes, but is not yet as established nor as proven. Ditto HBA/Cabella - HBA talent wise is one of the most technically outstanding players of his generation. Cabella has never been talked about in that breath, although albeit has had a good last season. So it's not biased at all, it's fact. This can all naturally change, given the alternatives and younger and hungrier etc than their predecessors.

  5. Eriksson also flopped in three main issues for England: 1. Scholes - there is no reason at all, if used properly in a Pirlo type of role that he could not have been playing (even at this world cup!). For someone with continental experience you would have expected him to be able to utilise that type of system more so than most British managers who tend to be limited in their understanding and experience of using such roles as a deep lying playmaker. There was always the Gerrard / Lampard debate - but never Scholes, who was shoehorned criminally on the left side. 2. For such a good side on paper, they were largely a lucky team (Germany 5-1 aside). I don't remember a single game against top opposition where I felt really positive or that we dominated to such an extent or that I enjoyed our style of play. In fact the last time England looked good, was under Glenn Hoddle in France 98. I think that team with Shearer, Owen, etc were more unlucky than most. They gave a good Argentina side featuring a peak Batistuta a helluva game with only 10 men and had a goal ruled out. They shouldn't have really faced Argentina as it was only down to a silly penalty against Romania that ensured we finished second as opposed to top of the group. 3. Too many random caps for random players. Devaluing the concept of playing for England. The likes of Powell, Ricketts etc. Let's not forget his personal life was constantly in question, Ulrika, Faria, Nancy etc. The coach should be stable and not be that newsworthy. He didn't justify his huge salary at all for me.
  6. I hated Dalglish. Dalglish was a catastrophic manager. I could have managed the Liverpool sides of 87-88 and 89-90 to the Championship with players they had. As soon as the writing was on the wall (the 4-4 v. Everton in the FAC the catalyst), he did a runner (even before the replay!) He was, frankly, lucky to win the Prem with Blackburn or, rather, he had Shearer who basically won it on his tod. Thereafter, it got worse and worse - he shat it at Blackburn, embarrassed himself and Celtic both with his managerial efforts there and pathetic stunts like taking press conferences in an East End pub, then shat it again. The best was yet to come, though, with his '2nd coming' at Liverpool, culminating in possibly the funniest 90mins I have ever seen at SJP when we dismantled his Liverpool side 2-0 on 1.4.12. His second tenure at Anfield was remarkable only for its ineptitude, his disgraceful backing of Suarez, the Suarez t-shirts, the 'he shouldn't have been banned in the first place' humility when Suarez returned from suspension, his 'I think I'm being clever but I'm coming across like a c*nt' press conferences, etc. etc. Horrible, twisted man. Horrible, talentless manager. Comparable to Pardew in many ways, but at least KD has some medals.

    Papiss Cissé

Including last season and this seasons - has someone ever scored as many goals that have ended up being ruled out? I remember at least 6-7 last season and a couple from this season now. Yes some are self inflicted but had even half of them stood we wouldn't necessarily be thinking he had completely lost it and was a lost cause etc etc
  8. Being from Nottingham - Andy Cole was actually in the same class as my cousin at school and remember being impressed that they were 'friends' - especially given this was around 1994-95 when he was scoring for fun. So I picked my club at that point... (I was 11 - had always been more into cricket at that point) My mates at school were incredulous - especially as Forest finished 3rd that season with Collymore being the best thing since sliced bread etc. But have never looked back... despite the constant digs in the time since then! Andy Cole's brother actually lived next door to a another friend of mine - so I got to meet him once when I was around. It also helps that Alan Shearer was also my favourite non-Newcastle player at the time - so I was obviously over the moon when he joined... I also helped to 'convert' a few of my friends / relatives who were just getting into footy at the time or just coming into the country - one guy in particular was the hugest Asprilla fan. Another was mesmerised by Dyer (a little later). Needless to say these guys never lasted. I did. Been a lone soldier ever since!
  9. Lukaku instead of Gomis temporarily - now that would have made all the sense in the world. Then get Gomis on a free transfer on a pre-contract deal in Jan 1. It's really not difficult, this director of football lark.

    Alan Pardew

Wouldn't actually mind Glenn Hoddle - if we must go for 90's appointments as seems MA's forte. His teams do play good football at least. The last time I enjoyed watching England was WC 1998 and the Hoddle Era, really.

    Alan Pardew

Genuine ITK (I'm from Nottingham so don't ever usually come across these) but I've been told bookies have stopped taking bets on Pardew leaving following a flurry... so must mean he's going? Genuinely just been told by a client based in North East... Wonder if it's true!!
  12. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/match-report-aston-villa-drop-into-bottom-three-after-yohan-cabaye-fires-newcastle-8471921.html Gutierrez Man of the Match. Hilarious!
  13. I refuse Toulose another player at the last minute
  14. I'm Sochaux he's hard as nails not just a French Nancy
  15. http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/120927/newcastle-three-way-battle-ivory-coast-hitman-181884 Doumbia - what a front three that would be. Clinical as they come.
  16. Every start Perch has made this season at CB we have conceded 4 goals! Forest, Blackburn and Norwich! That + goal difference will be gone after the next two games!
  17. The only keeper that was actually 'renowned' for his record of penalty saving was Mark Crossley - ex Forest - and even then not sure why, or what his record was! Probably because he actually saved a Matt Le Tissier one once. To be honest the problem is we've given too many away already this season - not that Krul is not good at saving them! No keeper is particularly great at saving penalties, there's not that much of a science to it! Steve Harper also got two penalties scored past him yesterday!

    James Perch

Smith and Amdy Faye are much much worse.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

I can confirm Ben Arfa is still quick as hell! I wouldn't say lightning quick going on todays showing, but there was one moment when he set up Lovenkrands for a tame shot when he did one of his bursts of pace with close control and left the defenders in his wake... promising signs indeed!
  20. Just got in from the game lads - I'm from Nottingham so not a short trip at all. Sitting with the Forest fans though Great game in the end, slow start but good seeing the lads never give up - so glad it didn't go to penalties! All in all pretty much the perfect game - lots of squad players getting run outs, debut for Mehdi Abeid (who looked very good - neat and tidy), entertaining game and a win. Oh, and did I mention the SAFE return of Ben Arfa!!! Forest didn't actually play too bad - at 90 mins full time I would say they had shaded it slightly, in terms of chances. But wle were clinical up to that point. Extra time (particularly second half) was ours - lots of back and forth - end to end. Coloccini is a legend. Nuff said. Ben Arfa despite it being first game back looked a class apart, always making himself available for the ball and full of running and intricate passing. He will honestly make the hugest difference linking midfield and attack - it was obvious seeing what he will bring. Marveaux needs to start games now - he is so composed and does not waste the ball at all. There were still a lot of hoofing the ball up to Lovenkrands, particularly first half. But the likes of Marveaux, Abeid, Ben Arfa, Guthrie, and later Ameobi, Obertan and Ferguson all used the short passing game to good effect. We are starting to look pretty good in parts, I must say. Ratings Elliot - 4 Have read that he has been criticised a bit - and imo its justified. Harper wouldn't have been as slow. I am a goalkeeper myself and defo think he was hesitant, slow and just very average. Did not inspire confidence for me. Simpson - 7 Not his biggest fan but he actually played well. Some good runs forward. Was definitely a cross! Coloccini - 8 What more can you say that hasn't been said? Pure class, effortless - both defensively and bringing the ball out. Inspired leader, and scored at the perfect time. When behind you could visibly see Colo taking control and taking the ball forward. Perch - 7 Controversial but he didn't actually do too bad. Thought he had one of his better games in fact (maybe its because my expectations are zero!). Did most things decently to be honest - although struggled on one of the goals. Still obviously not good enough but wasn't horrendous to be fair. Ferguson - 6.5 Looks like a boy - Forest fans were giving him a bit of abuse behind me! Left a few gaps at the back in extra time, and didn't go on too many of his marauding runs he is capable of, but solid first game back. Good option on the left, won't let anyone down. Gosling - 6 Quiet I thought - right to be substituted. Will get better I am sure. Guthrie - 7 Ticked things over well - good passing range on show. Had a good run forward in extra time - didn't think he had the stamina for it to be honest! Abeid - 7 very promising debut - some wayward passes but all in all a tidy game - kept it simple and did what he was supposed to. Good, mobile back up to Tiote. Marveaux - 8.5 Quality player. Involved in a lot, excellent link up play, good crosser, controlling the ball, not wasteful, productive. A good find indeed. He will get better with time - I look forward to seeing him in the same midfield as Cabaye and Ben Arfa! Ben Arfa - 7.5 Very solid first game back. Involved very heavily for the time he was on - wanted the ball and went on some good runs. Probably needs to work on his strength a little as wsn't able to hold off some of the people tracking him as he usually does. But this will come in time - good incisive passer and makes things happen. Lovenkrands - 8 Did well - good leap for the header. Chased tirelessly, ball was being hoofed to him but he tried to knock it on. Penalty I was worried about but did the job. Subs - Obertan - 7.5 Much better as a sub in my opinion, running at tired legs. He beat his man a few more times than usual today, but most of his crossing was still low and hard, and got cleared easy. Played well overall though, good link up with Sammy, and peach of a cross for the winner. Shola - 5 Same - always offside. Had one decent chance at the end but over the bar. Quiet and anonymous otherwise. Sammy - 8 Very direct and full of running, another who makes things happen. He is deceptively quick, excellent feet and did well. Pardew got his subs spot on - except Shola of course... Overall a good game, glad I went down!! Seeing Ben Arfa happy, smiling and so close (the crowd at Forest is very close to the pitch) so at one point he was literally only a few metres from me!! Well done the lads - I look forward to coming up and seeing another game at St James' soon!!

    Nolan Roux

To welcome him to the club - let's offer him a dessert of Roux-barb and Custard. For his French palatte, this could be a Roux-de awakening...

    Joey Barton

I think Barton is the one who is a bit different, the rest look to be pace merchants who like to run at players and cause havoc with their skill, Barton is the slower one who relies more on his delivery and intelligent play. Yep, couldn't disagree more with Tron. It's a diverse midfield trio, him, Tiote and Cabaye. There's so much going for it - would be desperately disappointed to see it broken up after only just getting it. I mean for God's sake, our fucking centre midfield since Bobby left. Absolute shite, every single year without fail, until Cheick came along. He was the first part of the jigsaw, now with Cabaye in there (who, already i can tell, will cover more yards then 90% of midfielders in the league) and Barton's intelligence on the ball... i can see it developing into a super little engine room. Really can't be underestimated, the centre of midfield. We should know it better than most, having put up with shite like Jenas, Faye, Parker, Butt, Smith since Speed left. Emre had potential. Was a decent CM amongst all the dross. Him and Parker could have worked if bloody Roeder didn't try and make Parker our 'Gerrard'.
