The 33-year-old victim was found outside Cosy Joes Pub, in the Groat Market in Newcastle, after police were called in the early hours. Mr Ranger, 20, was later arrested on suspicion of assault. Newcastle United refused to comment, but a source confirmed the striker had been arrested. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "The injured man was unconscious and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary suffering from a suspected broken jaw. "The offender made off and police carried out a search of the area. "A 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later, nearby, on suspicion of assault and is currently helping police with their enquiries. Michael Owen 'set for Derby move' despite interest from Premier League Michael Owen is a shock target for Championship strugglers Derby County, who are looking to land the Manchester United outcast on a free transfer. The veteran striker is now fourth choice at Old Trafford, and with Danny Welbeck due back from loan at the end of the season, Owen is unlikely to be offered a new deal. Rams boss Nigel Clough is desperate to bolster the quality of his squad in a bid to avoid another season fighting relegation, and sources claim he’s targeted the former England international as a marquee summer signing. Clough has been promised cash to spend by the board, and with high-earner Robbie Savage set to retire at the end of the season, Derby are reportedly preparing a £1.5million package to lure Owen to Pride Park. ‘The last two seasons have been very frustrating and I think everybody recognizes we need a fresh injection of players,’ said Clough. ‘There will be money available. We want six or eight players, it will be a mix of experience, free transfers and at least one ‘biggish’ signing.’ Owen, who famously had to manufacture a brochure showcasing his qualities in an attempt to find a club in 2009, may once again find himself on the shelf and forced to realistically consider a drop into the lower leagues. Speaking on the emergence of Javier Hernandez, and seemingly acknowledging his lack of sharpness at the highest level, Owen said: ‘Javier is 10 years younger of course, so maybe he is a better version of the current Michael Owen. 'He has been the surprise package this year without a doubt. ‘I wouldn't say he is similar to how I was in the early stages of my career, but with injuries and the way I have adapted my game, he is probably quite similar to what I do now, apart from he is a bit sharper.’ Read more: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/862216-michael-owen-set-for-derby-move-despite-interest-from-premier-league#ixzz1LOA53VOW

Got to say the San Siro , 13000 geordies there. Have you ever seen a mackem in Milan? Others worth a mention Leicester away when we needed to win to stay in the old 2nd division - few hairy moments Grimsby away when we won the 1st division title. Never been in a more crowded away end.

Owen to the mackems http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Sunderland-set-for-sensational-swoop-for-Manchester-United-s-Michael-Owen-article674235.html Steve Bruce is ready to take Michael Owen from his old club Manchester United – and hand him a stunning move to Sunderland. Bruce hopes to pull off the sensational swoop this week and offer Owen a full-time move and the chance of regular football after being left on the fringes of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. Black Cats boss Bruce is said to be “desperately close” to landing the ex-England striker and paying him a relatively cheap £25,000-a-week to come to Wearside. Owen has grown fed up at Old Trafford where he has hardly figured this season and badly misses the action at the age of 31 – and with some games and goals left in him. Fergie threw on Owen as a sub against old club Liverpool in the FA Cup last week, but it is not enough for the far-travelled forward who wants to be playing on a regular basis. Bruce has a dream of chasing Europe at Sunderland and he thinks Owen could fire him closer, giving Darren Bent a possible partner and a top-class replacement if he is injured. Owen is also up for the move despite the fact that he played for bitter rivals Newcastle United – that part of his career does not concern Bruce either. The Sunderland chief has bemoaned the lack of finishers in his side this season despite Sunderland’s strong push for a top-six slot. If he lands Owen then that problem may be solved. Owen has had some injury problems in his time at United, but Sunderland are confident they can treat him right and use him properly to add an extra ingredient to their season. Ferguson will have to release Owen from his contract to let the deal go ahead. However he took him for nothing and may be sympathetic. The Manchester United chief also likes Bruce and is aware that this gesture may help relations between the clubs when it comes to the sale of midfield maestro Jordan Henderson, who made his full England debut at the end of last year, probably in the summer. A source close to Owen is convinced the move to Sunderland will happen, and said last night: “This is not about money – Michael will get a fair contract but he is more interested in playing and scoring.”

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3331342/Spurs-in-shock-Andy-Carroll-swoop.html SPURS have made an enquiry for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy contacted Toon officials to ask about the £30million-rated star's availability. Levy was told Carroll was not for sale but that has not put Spurs off and sources say they are ready to test Newcastle with a concrete offer. Tottenham are looking to bid £20m but it is understood Toon will demand at least £30m. Manchester City and Chelsea are also eyeing the striker, who has 11 goals this season. Carroll is out for three weeks with a torn thigh muscle. -

It's not just O2, Orange is crap as I couldn't get onto anything in the ground. I was getting a 3G signal but couldn't load anything and it was just as bad outside the ground after the match. Me too. Im with Orange and yesterday I had a 3G signal showing on my phone but couldn't get anything on my phone. And at times I get bugger all signal at all. Not just O2 and Orange, I am on Vodafone and most of the time in the ground I was getting no data on both 2G and 3G -
Has he been smoking a bit too much crack? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/blackburn_rovers/9009565.stm Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce believes he is good enough to manage any of Europe's top clubs. Allardyce, once a candidate for the England manager's job, arrived at Ewood Park in 2008 having survived at Newcastle for less than half a season. Ahead of his team's clash with Fulham, the 55-year-old said: "I would be more suited to Inter Milan or Real Madrid. "It wouldn't be a problem for me to manage those clubs because I would win the double or the league every time." Although happy in his current role, Allardyce added: "Give me Manchester United or Chelsea and I would do the same, it wouldn't be a problem. "It's not a problem to take me into the higher reaches of the Champions League or Premier League and would make my job a lot easier in winning it." Allardyce has enjoyed a colourful managerial career, starting at West Bromwich as an assistant coach in 1989, before moving on to Limerick, Blackpool and Notts County. He spent eight years at the helm of Bolton Wanderers before resigning surprisingly in April 2007 after guiding the Trotters to fifth spot in the Premiership and the brink of Uefa Cup qualification. He spent eight years at the helm of Bolton Wanderers before resigning surprisingly in April 2007 after guiding the Trotters to fifth spot in the Premiership and the brink of Uefa Cup qualification. Allardyce took over at Newcastle a month later on a three-year contract but was in charge for only 24 matches before leaving the club "by mutual agreement". He had to wait 11 months before resuming his career with Blackburn, who face Mark Hughes's Fulham this weekend with the London club just one one of five teams still unbeaten in the Premier League. And with Hughes arriving at Craven Cottage for the start of the season having been sacked by Manchester City after an 18-month stint, Allardyce feels the former Welsh manager, as well as himself, has not been given time to perform with certain clubs. "His Manchester City reign obviously was not long enough. A little bit like me at Newcastle, but I didn't last quite as long as Sparky though," Allardyce added. "He was given the chance and unfortunately at that stage of his career they decided to have a change. You look back on it and he'll be very disappointed because they only lost two games. "There's a perception that other people can do better than you, but often the reality is not the case. He decided that Fulham was the place for him, he's taken over what he's described in his own words as a very good team and he's started where they left off last season." Sam has made his mark in the Premier League, which is the strongest league in world football Mark Hughes Hughes, meanwhile, believes Allardyce would be a strong candidate to be the next England boss, with Fabio Capello set to step down in two years. Allardyce was pipped to the England post after the 2006 World Cup by Steve McLaren but Hughes said: "Sam's record in the Premier League stands comparison with any British, English or foreign manager at the level of the clubs he's been at. "He's a successful Premier League manager and the view at this time is that England need an English manager. I also hold that view because it's important that a country is led by someone of the same nationality. "Sam has made his mark in the Premier League, which is the strongest league in world football. If you can get positive results in this league you're a good manager. "Whether the way Sam sets up his team lends itself to international management is a debate for another day. But certainly his record in terms of games won makes him a strong candidate." Fulham's visit to Ewood Park on Saturday sees Hughes returning to the club where he spent three seasons as a player and four years as manager.
