  1. £90? Not £90k? Sorry, either is believable. Mirror Website says £90.
  2. Campbell's physically too weak for the Premiership right now for sure. I doubt he'll get much taller, so really this is the step he needs to take. Training with the first team, bulking up. He's got enough pace and footballing brain about him to cause any defender problems with his movement, he just has to be able to compete. He'll never get that staying with the U18s, so good move from Pards I reckon!
  3. How can you get the league position wrong ffs? Such shoddy everything.
  4. He's had an absolute mare there Steve Harper - £4.2m What the jumping jack christ? He's gone mental.
  5. If he'd gone on to be a real hit at Liverpool, Chelsea or PSG might have been stupid enough to bid higher, but that's really about it.
  6. I would be shocked if we bought Pieters and Debuchy quite frankly. I would be shocked if we bought Pieters or Debuchy quite fankly.
  7. Ba and Cabaye being named and then withdrawn is a little strange, no?
  8. Obviously it's not enough to go into a season with just three right backs.
  9. Newcastle did exactly that against CSKA Moscow in the week. They know how to do it, but the Brazillians were just so sublimely good at it, and Newcastle were tired. Can't understand why Joyce picked the same line-up every single time, without resting people over the week.
  10. He's very weak. Got pace about him, and some nice close control. He just runs, and runs. Has put in a few decent crosses, but tbh he seems like he's got a better finish on him than he does eye for an assist atm. Hard worker, but needs to strengthen up even against the other teams at this level. He's new though, so I'm sure it'll come.
  11. 35 minute halfs, so 70 minute games. The teams are looking tired, and injuries look to be affecting a few of the NUFC players.
  12. Kick off in 25 minutes now. Just off to report on the match. Updates on @UtdForNewcastle on Twitter if you're interested.
  13. Really, suprised we would adopt such an approach Of course we would. It's brought us so much success this summer so far.
  14. We should have enough to see off Bolton, going on their teams from previous years. But Desportivo Brazil look quite imperious this year, so should we get them in the final it'll be very, very tough.
  15. I know it's not much, but I don't think that many people here will have watched him for many more than that. I've watched him score four goals, so I have a little idea of how he scores and works up front.
  16. Pretty tidy as far as I can see. Controls the ball well, has good vision, and can dink in and out of players. That's my concern about him stepping up. I've not seen him at reserve level, although he's tearing up his current level. I think he needs time to develop, like I said. Maybe let him toughen up a bit as he grows, he's still what, 16? As FM says, a "hot prospect", but expecting him to jump into the first team now and bag 5-10 goals a season is just not going to happen yet.
  17. Having watched him for two full matches now (tonight and last night), I'd say he really has something. He's like Owen in his prime. Lightning fast, drifts between defenders, and always seems to pop up in the right places. He's got a real predatory instinct that you don't often see at this level. That said, he is VERY small. Tiny. He's stronger than he looks, though. I'd say he could have enough about him to compensate for his height, but it'll take another year or so. Would back him to play in the League Cup against some weak sides, but I think he needs another year or two to develop at his own pace, physically more than anything else. I'm trying to organise an interview with him, so I'll ask him what his aims are if I can get it.
  18. There's coverage, but it seems very limited this year, unless I've missed something. You're probably right that it's for budget reasons, sadly. We really did play great football today though. Real confidence. Campbell plays like Rooney, and likes to sit deep and create attacks for himself by playing the ball out. We've got some great passers as well, I can only recall one stray attempt. Macauley Booth has some real swagger and strength about him too, left the right back for dead a few times with a simple drop of the shoulder.
  19. http://nimilkcup.org/cache/images/stories/632-amondayprem.gif A win tomorrow against CSKA (and from watching the team today, they play great football - they should be capable) should see Newcastle go straight into competition's semi-finals.
  20. Academy beat Mexican side Pachuca's youth 6-0 today in the Milk Cup. Adam Campbell, Macauley Booth, Rolando Aarons and Alex Gilliead all played excellently, and Lubomir Satka was a beast at the back.
  21. Newcastle Academy beat Co. Fermanagh 4-0 in their Milk Cup opener. On a side note, Manchester United lost 2-0 to Co. Tyrone, Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with Co. Armagh, Benfica held Co. Antrim to a goalless draw, and Etoile Lusitania could only manage a 1-1 draw with Co. Down. Therefore, Newcastle were the only team to beat any of the Northern Irish county sides on the opening day in the Premier Section.
  22. Elliot really is awful. Harps would have saved that ffs.
  23. My translation: "I have decided 100%. I want to leave Lille. The coach wants me to stay, but I will not change my opinion. I still want to go. I want to try to go elsewhere." "To play with Yohan Cabaye is one of my priorities. Inter are also interested in signing me and already the clubs have been in contact. It is not already the case. Newcastle have proposed 5 million euros. I don't know how much Lille want for me. I am a defender, so they won't wait/expect for an extraordinary offer."
  24. Not again. What about it? Humour me. Do you not realise how daft your post makes you come across as? Explain. We're told hundreds of times from the staff at the club how much thought and research goes into our signings, players we've watched for years. We then bid a figure that the club laughs at, and tells us to go away. Fair enough, we move on to other targets. What I can't fathom is why we bother in the first place with all the research, if what we're prepared to pay is so shambolic. Maybe we're just chancing our arms, but why don't we have these things sorted before the transfer window? We seem to waste weeks and months chasing players like this, when we just don't seem to have a chance of getting them at the money we're prepared to pay. We've proven in the past that if the right bargain isn't available, we're prepared to wait - even if it means gambling by having slightly too few players. I sincerely hope they don't take this gamble in the first half of the season, esp. if Cisse gets injured and Ba gets ramadanitis again. No Best to bail them out anymore, of course.
  25. We know how much man, we just take an almost ridiculously hardball approach to them. We're paying up front so we want to be 100% sure they're getting maximum value for money. We also appear to believe that we can get the player onside and let the selling club sweat in each case. I would wager that a big problem this summer is our 5th place finish and European qualification. Clubs aren't stupid, they know how much more money, prestige and pull that gives us. The prices for us probably creep up accordingly. They think they can extort more out of us which I bet pisses the board off. It's probably the reason seemingly all of these offers have been leaked this time as well. I will, of course, reserve judgement, until the end of the window. I just sincerely hope that the approach doesn't sacrifice quality players for the sake of a few million quid. I realise it's a slippery slope, but I think most people laughed at how horrendous our bid for Douglas was. I'm not surprise Twente aren't snapping our hands off.
