James Maddison (now playing for Tottenham Hotspur)

There's often good players in relegated teams. I actually think that's becoming more and more the case now PL clubs are becoming better at scouting and signing from all markets. Honestly these days loads of good players are already in the PL player pool - it's not the early 2000s anymore. It's often no slight on a player to be in a relegated team that has a good scouting process but bad overall operations and coaching. Anguissa was relegated with a dreadful and chaotic Fulham side but has been brilliant for Napoli as a recent example. However it's definitely a case of seeing past the numbers/MOTD highlights and picking those with genuine quality. It takes good scouting not just a case of picking those who have stood out in a relegated side. Indeed often players can shine in relegated sides because of the way said team plays to their benefit. A no frills CB looking great because he's in a side that defends deep (Scott Dann/Roger Johnson), a striker scoring loads because the whole team is built to feed them (Charlie Austin). I was worried Pope was a goalkeeper making lots of saves just because his team was under pressure all the time - but we clearly looked well past just the stats for that one. -

I'm gonna be in bits if we're ever going for the title or later rounds of CL. Genuinely find being good ridiculously stressful. Keep re-checking fixtures, odds, percentages, weighing up permutations. We're better than I can ever remember us being and yet I stress watch through games with my heart pounding along. I think making the CL is a particularly huge deal for me this season because I think it's a way to skip forward so much of FFP restrictions. It can supercharge our progress. I think EL or ECL could actually hinder us - getting a load more games but without the additional revenue or pulling power. -
For me JWP is a good mid-table/bottom half PL player. He has technical quality and his set pieces make him a real asset for a certain level of club. However there is no way he is good enough for a CL pushing club. Lacking in the required pace and dynamism. Southampton have been picked mercilessly (and willingly) for their talent over the years and it's never even been remotely likely that he would get picked up.

What odds can you get on us missing out? Must be longer than those 6-1 for Liverpool making it. Might offset the potential obliteration if we bottle it. -
His best ever PL goal scoring season now.

I still think they'll win all their games like. Load of teams either on the beach or already down. If they drop so much as a one game as a draw I think it's done. -

Think they'll win their last 5 like. We're going to need 72 to be sure. -

All 3 is better. Max Spurs can get in 69 which is basically 68 with their goal difference. A Spurs win and this is all over. -
Spurs win is ideal. They have a game less and much worse goal difference. And much lower chance of winning all their games.
-
Had an absolutely horrible feeling about this game like. Fuck's sake.

Newcastle United vs. Southampton: 30/04/23 @ 14:00 (No UK TV)

The fact our only gubbing of the season came when he didn't play says a lot about his importance. -
Greyhounds stuffing Nate's side

It's an awful set of fixtures like. Going along to Blyth instead. They could do with the support today for anybody at a loose end.
-
UEFA have made concessions for years to appease out of fear of a breakaway league. It's not them that's the issue, it's the cabal of big clubs who have pushed the agenda.

Fair market value seems such BS. But whatever. Double it in a couple of seasons.

Matt Targett set to miss remainder of season with hamstring injury (Howe)
ponsaelius replied to SUPERTOON's topic in Football
His distribution is better than Burn's and he will at least potentially put a cross in now and again from open play. He also offers a left foot set piece option which mixes things up. I do think there's things Burn offers that he doesn't IE aerially defensively and in terms of character/aggression for certain occasions. But personally I prefer Targett as a footballer. There's no doubt both are probably midtable players though. -
Isak by a mile in my opinion. Dribbling is a harder skill than passing.
-
No chance unfortunately.

Can hypothesize about our midseason decline and what caused it but think the main reason was we didn't have a competent or fit striker for an extended period. Goals break tight games open, particularly the way we play. God knows where we'd be if we'd had these versions of Wilson and Isak available all season.
-
Did you see his on-pitch interview after the match? You can tell his ego has been hit quite a bit with Isak being so good. Not a bad thing though because it's clearly motivating him to up his game.

Leicester could basically relegate the Ev on Monday like, kinell
