. Sadly, I think some people are only going to realise just how good some of our players are when they see them excelling in another team's colours.

Never seen enough from either to suggest they deserve a first XI place. Jury is still out on the quality of Anita for me, and I doubt he will ever show his quality under Pardew. Seems to be a player with a very specific role who only flourishes in a team playing in a certain way. He might look a good player for Swansea or Liverpool.

Yep. We did try and play it out from the back more towards the end of last season, and our retention improved a fair amount. However,not much of the possession was in the final third of the pitch, and it rarely amounted to anything. Our poor football has much more to do with movement/ lack of attacking in numbers(pushing the team higher up the pitch) than any hoofball/passing football distinction. Apart from those ridiculous freekicks taken by the goalkeeper near the halfway line. They're fucking woeful. I honestly think it doesn't matter how many new signings we throw at this team, it's still not going to solve the problem of basic shape and playing style. That is where the manager usually makes the difference.

The Kinnear appointment really took the heat off him (and there wasn't enough of it in any case). Hopefully not for long. He'll be remembered as the man who failed to realise the potential of the best team we've had in years.

Without debating the merits of Downing the team that won the Premiership last season had players who could play effectively as wingers in their squad. They didn't use them that way every game but you have to have options. I agree in principle but I think an interest in players like Downing signals a return to a flat midfield four, which doesn't suit a large number of our better players.Also, I'd like to see Pardew successfully implement a cohesive style of play before worrying about tactical flexibility. His indecisiveness about such matters last season didn't help us at all.

Don't want an orthodox winger. Definitely don't want Stewart Downing.

I'd be pretty pleased if Remy was the only player we brought in. Easily pleased then. Still one injury away from Jonas or Shola playing in that case. If we go with two up front as Pardew has suggested then it should leave Shola as fourth choice. Agree we could definitely use greater depth out wide/up front though, but my expectations are fairly low and I think adding Remy would give us (potentially) a very good first XI.

While this is true i really do doubt Remy is playing as a wide forward, i see a system with 2 strikers what that is i don't know but its happening as far as i'm concerned. Ince would be the much needed winger we have been clamoring for, i don't think Ince and Remy have anything to do with one another. That said its probably bullshit. I can't see any of our rumoured three striker targets coming to sit on the bench, so if we're playing two up top I can only see one of them coming in. Maybe I've just being conditioned to expect a lack of depth in that area. I'm not even convinced there is a clear plan or formation in mind at this point really, considering we still seem to be pursuing Bent despite Cisse's dispute being resolved. Our 3 targets are all very different.

Nowhere near Remy's level as a wide forward (and I can't see us signing both), but would be a decent signing.
