They are all being chronically mismanaged. The only way in which the 'The Graham Carr experiment' has failed is that we didn't ask him to help us locate a manager in the summer. This is probably now an unpopular opinion.
-
He was crap last night, but I'm still confident he can be a quality player for us. Those wittering on about his nationality/our recruitment policy would do well to remember his performance against England at Euro 2012, where he was easily one of the best players on the pitch. When an entire team performs as we did last night, scapegoating individuals serves only to deflect away from the wider picture.

Pardew just doesn't fancy him, and i suspect it because Pardew thinks Marv doesn't work hard enough. s*** reason from a s*** manager. Yep. Refuses to have HBA and Marveaux on the pitch at the same time.

City only had one more English player in their team than we did.

We've played better than I was expecting.

. Sadly, I think some people are only going to realise just how good some of our players are when they see them excelling in another team's colours.
-
Would be a good signing, and seems to be going relatively cheap.
-
Never seen enough from either to suggest they deserve a first XI place. Jury is still out on the quality of Anita for me, and I doubt he will ever show his quality under Pardew. Seems to be a player with a very specific role who only flourishes in a team playing in a certain way. He might look a good player for Swansea or Liverpool.

good post, and as regards the bit in bold his formula for success when we finished 5th was based on little else than ba and cisse scoring goals out of nothing, so yes i'd tend to agree with you Think he's hoping Remy will provide the goals out of nothing/'moments of magic' this year.

The Official Alan Pardew Excuses Thread
Barnes23 replied to WarrenBartonCentrePartin's topic in Football
Yep. We did try and play it out from the back more towards the end of last season, and our retention improved a fair amount. However, not much of the possession was in the final third of the pitch, and it rarely amounted to anything. Our poor football has much more to do with movement/ lack of attacking in numbers(pushing the team higher up the pitch) than any hoofball/passing football distinction. Apart from those ridiculous freekicks taken by the goalkeeper near the halfway line. They're fucking woeful. I honestly think it doesn't matter how many new signings we throw at this team, it's still not going to solve the problem of basic shape and playing style. That is where the manager usually makes the difference. -
The Kinnear appointment really took the heat off him (and there wasn't enough of it in any case). Hopefully not for long. He'll be remembered as the man who failed to realise the potential of the best team we've had in years.

Without debating the merits of Downing the team that won the Premiership last season had players who could play effectively as wingers in their squad. They didn't use them that way every game but you have to have options. I agree in principle but I think an interest in players like Downing signals a return to a flat midfield four, which doesn't suit a large number of our better players. Also, I'd like to see Pardew successfully implement a cohesive style of play before worrying about tactical flexibility. His indecisiveness about such matters last season didn't help us at all.

Don't want an orthodox winger. Definitely don't want Stewart Downing.

Would be gutted to see him go. Hope it's just bs.
